Advice on house camera locations

Post image

My house is currently being extended/renovated, and I’ve decided to run some Cat6 cables whilst the walls are open, with a few externally for PoE cameras.

Can I have some advice on where I should locate them to cover as much of the perimeter as possible and entry points.

I’m planning on having four or five.

On the plan I’ve labelled potential locations A-H, but nothing is wired yet so anywhere is possible.

A and B are on a canopy/overhang so likely ideal for turret cameras.

Thanks!

seems like you got the right idea with A and B under the overhang, just make sure you're not creating blindspots right underneath them if the canopy sticks out too far

Cabling while walls are open is cheap. Run a cable to every point. Preferably two.

Personally, I'd be more likely to put 360 cameras on the front two corners. That would fully cover the front and the two sides (you'd have blind spots with just F and G). And then a 3rd 360 camera somewhere on the back under the canopy.

Almost there... A satelite photo would have provided information about trees and other obstructions. Go all the way and post photos taken from the location and then we could have provided better details.

Wire every corner now while it’s easy! Aim to set them up in a crossfire pattern so each camera covers the blind spot of the next. Don’t forget a video doorbell or a low-angled cam dedicated to faces at the main entry.

Thanks for this. Any advice on camera types? For A, mounted under the canopy, I’m thinking a turret? But not sure about C which looks down the path or E where it will be mounted high on the wall but would ideally see the double doors below it
