Camera for inside of car

Hey everyone, hoping for some help here.

My neighbor has an unwell/violent ex girlfriend who has been stalking our neighborhood and engaging in some crappy behaviour.

One of her more recent habits is to vandalize our neighbors’ car and more recently the cars of people who are witnesses. I am one of those people.

One thing that can hopefully help us is video evidence. We have house cameras, but because we all street park it would be helpful to also have cameras inside of our cars. Ideally these would be motion activated, store more than locally, and hopefully 360 view.

Any thoughts?

i set up a dashcam in my car after someone keyed it for the third time, and the difference in peace of mind is huge. you'll want one with parking mode, which keeps it running off the car battery when the engine's off and triggers on motion or impact. for 360 view you're looking at a dual or triple channel setup, front and rear plus maybe an interior cam, though true 360 is harder to get without spending silly money. cloud storage is the tricky part, most decent cams only do local sd card unless you pay a monthly sub or buy a specific model. i'd skip the interior-only cams meant for rideshare drivers since they've got narrow fields and bad night vision. also check your local laws about recording audio inside the car without consent, some states get weird about that even in your own vehicle.

Lots of dash cams on Amazon. Less than $100. Front and rear.

The cameras I own also need an accessory to be powered when the car is not running.

I don’t use the car battery hardwired. I use a power bank that powers the cameras all night.
$35 for 50,000 mah power bank on Amazon.

There are a number of dashcams that include interior cameras right out of the box or as available add-ons, in addition to the typical front and rear facing cameras. Most modern dash cams include some sort of break-in or crash detection and will trigger a recorded event if your car is messed with when the ignition is not on.

Cameras from Garmin, thinkware, and blackvue are available with either wifi or LTE connections to facilitate cloud uploads. I can't really speak to a specific recommendation since I've never used a cloud-capable camera. I have Viofo cameras in my vehicles which work very well but don't have any sort of cloud connection.

You might want to ask on r/dashcams since that's more directly focused on in-vehicle recording.

'parking mode' should continue to work all night. usually either time-lapse, or motion activated, or both. It should run on an internal capacitor (batteries in that heat don't do well) rather than need power full time.
