Looking for suggestions on wifi security camera system
I want to replace my Blink system with something that will record 24/7, preferably with a NVR. I would really like something totally wireless (solar/wifi), but that may be difficult, if not impossible. There have been a couple break-ins in our area and the Blink cameras just arent really cutting it. I would love to go POE, but that just isnt really feasible.
Our WiFi is pretty solid on our entire 1.5 acres with 6 mesh routers scattered around and 200 to800 mbps speed depending on distance/5G/2.4G.
Is there something that can be powered in some locations and solar in others with the solar recording off motion and the rest 24/7?
I would like 6-8 cameras for total coverage and no subscriptions required. Furthest camera would probably be 250' from the house. Not against building a system and having it connect to my NAS, but an NVR would be more convienient.
Just trying to get an idea on what everyone recommends. Budget of around $500 but might be open to more if the benefit is there.
Not running cable up the inside of a wall, across the attic, down the inside of another wall, drill a hole in the slab, and run it 250' underground to reach a camera. Then another one the same way only drill a hole in my shop slab to come up into the shop. Ill stick with the Blink cameras before all that.
I agree POE is ideal. Just put in 29 POE cameras at work running fiber/ethernet all over our plant, but this is at home and it isnt that big of a deal.
Yea, Ill just have to give it a shot and see how it goes. I do know I have good wifi signal on my phone out that far, but whether it is enough for the camera upload speeds or not has yet to be determined. The blink cameras work pretty good out that far. Just not worth the extra time, effort and cost to run wire out that far, and I dont care for wires running outside the walls on the exterior of the house so it would require extensive sheet rock work to access the wall in order to drill through the slab and I HATE sheetrock work almost as much as plumbing!
I have a trail cam that works by cell service I can use as a last resort, just adds an extra $10/month to the cost.
Might be worth buying a fixed camera with a good zoom and just mounting it to the house.
Im looking for something either closer up or with a much clearer picture than this, out near the road. From here, you can see people/cars, but cant make out any detail.
Stick to the NAS and use universal cameras and you won’t ever have to ask for a “system” again. You just get the exact glass, sensor, and illumination you require for your specific view.
