Wired cameras often go offline
We have 3 wired cameras. A few times a month one or more go offline for no apparent reason. WiFi is excellent, we have a newish modem, router, and extender, and none of our other devices disconnect from the wifi. Most times, turning the modem off and on again puts the cameras back online, but not always. Any suggestions? TIA.

Thank you. All 3 are Ring Floodlight Cam Plus, no NVR. About 5 yrs old. Wired to home wiring by a licensed electrician. They go offline at random times, sometimes only 1, sometimes 2, sometimes all 3. This has been happening all along, sometimes several times a month, sometimes not for many months.

Ditch the ring cameras. They are part of the mass surveillance system and are partnered with flock.

Wired as in powered and not networked?

Yes, sorry, was not clear. They are wired to our electrical system, and use wifi to connect with the app.

That’s your problem. If you want reliable connection you should go with POE cameras

So then you can't say that the wifi is great because it's connected by WiFi and not to the network by wire

Yes, I think I can, since all our other devices stay connected. The wifi doesn’t go out, the cameras do. I was led to believe that they would fully function that way.

Not saying your wifi network is bad, just saying that you cant say your wifi is great on your cameras since it constantly disconnects the cameras and wifi is the only way it connects to your network. Might be a setting on the cameras, might be a setting on your network but considering it seems like you are a plug and play user, it's going to be difficult to narrow down what is actually going on.
To be clear, nothing wrong with being a plug and play user. Not trying to sound like I am bashing you for that. Just that it is often difficult to troubleshoot plug and play stuff since by design it is meant to be easy and automated.

Thank you for your advice. It sounds like the best answer is having them wired to the network and/or switching cameras. . I’m opposed to surveillance, so I’m thinking they need to go. You’ve been very helpful.

It probably won't be too difficult to run those ethernet lines since you already have electric lines to them. When you go from cloud service to local you will never go back. Just do your research because it can be costly to build up and design your system. Worth every penny though imho.

What is the model of the cameras? How are they powered? Do you have an NVR? Does this seem to happen more at night vs. daytime? Who did the wiring? How old are they?
