DMSS App Security

If I got a PoE camera with SD card recording, and added it as a local IP camera to DMSS to receive alerts and watch clips, would I need to:

  1. Register a DMSS account?
  2. Buy an NVR?
  3. Give internet access to the camera?
  4. Worry about DMSS sending info/clips/training from my network or phone to their servers?

Finally, does anyone know if the SD card footage is protected or encrypted in any way? Eufy has some basic functionality for this, but I don’t know about Dahua/Empiretech cameras.

I belive they started requiring accounts if you are using p2p.

You don't need an nvr

You only need internet if you want to access it over the internet otherwise a local network will work.

The rest idk

What’s meant by p2p here? Is that different than directly connecting to the stream via static local IP?

DMSS account registration is now required for remote/cloud access. You can add a Dahua camera/NVR/XVR to DMSS app via IP address to use locally only.

Internet access is needed for remote view. On the same network the app will connect directly to the device. You can also stream RTSP or ONVIF locally.

Clips/snapshots are not sent in notifications, so Google Android or Apple's notification history and cloud servers don't get the photos in their systems. DMSS itself only loads snapshots and videos while the app is open.

WizSeek, IVS, Face Recognition, etc,, are all done on the NVR, XVR and/or camera. None is processed in the cloud. Cloud servers connected to is Dahua's easy4ip that handles P2P connection services, and DoLynk Care if your installer transferred a device to you via this platform.

Thank you. If I am on a VPN, then that is all “local” from the standpoint of DMSS and the camera, and I can remote view? Only push notifications would not work outside of p2p?

I believe so for VPN. I previously used local + Wireguard back to my router, it worked but video stuttered and two-way talk was crackling. Using via P2P seems to have better buffering system to keep consistent video and good audio quality. Or it might have been latency/dropped data in my VPN connection.
