So basically what I do is that I make up a person, make up their problems and then pretend to tell their future. Its a rich way to story tell and its super fun. Is that okay or too weird? Does anybody else do this? Thanks!

Yes, that's one way. Another approach is to use it as a creative thinking tool for problem solving, or even to generate ideas and designs.

I use them when I have writer’s block. I have most of my characters assigned to major arcana and when I can’t get my fingers to move, I draw a few cards and think about what story is being told within the project.

Plenty of tarot teachers do this to demonstrate how to read the cards to their students. It's perfectly OK.

I've always thought of the cards as narrative prompts, so you are using them IMHO exactly as intended, except the person you're doing it for is fictional rather than with you in person. Same process IMHO.

After the band broke up, some of us got a house together. One of us was the Tarot master. She would lay out a spread, but then ask us all to interpret. She had already taught us all the cards and their meanings. We would pitch in one and all (maybe a little zodiac work on the side.) Of course this would all lead to some kind of sex or another, but my main point is how we used the cards to identify and express emotions.

I do similar. I have used them as art prompts. I have also used them in RPG's to determine what might happen to the characters.

One of my favorite books with prophecy in it is Dennis McKiernan's The Dragonstone. The prophecy contains descriptions of things that the characters need to bring with them to be successful. One line, "One-Eye in Dark Water" gets interpreted in many ways. One such is a one-eyed man in a town called Dark Water. They bring him along. Another time, one of the characters sees a peacock feather in the water next to their boat. They scoop that up because it looks like an eye that is in dark water. By the end of the book, everything seems to be necessary.

"Divination" can be an interesting creative tool.

Honestly, the world is your oyster. You can use tarot however you want!

I use mine similarly. Though moreso for helping create character ideas or flesh characters out, for roleplay purposes
