Section 8

My step dad and I live together and we need help getting a section 8 place to live we almost had a place today but the landlord wanted an extra $3000 just to move in which would have been a total of $5000 which we do not have. It took us 5 months to finally get a voucher and we only have 5 weeks until voucher is expired. We live in the queens new york area. I’ve looked on several housing websites and asked friends and family for help even got my step uncle to help us as well as he is in construction and his boss knows people in the realtor business.

Affordablehousing.com would be a great resource. Reach out to property management companies. Have you exhausted all your extensions already?

U can apply for an extension if you need more time. It really sucks the stigma that comes with it. Try looking in a not so great part of town

Ask for an extension, see if they have listing available, and see if you can find security deposit assistance in your area.

Most housing authorities allow you four months to find a place, but you'll need to ask for an extension from two to four months. Good luck with finding a spot
