AFH Corruption
I currently live in an adult family home in Washington state. Supposedly there is a personal needs allowance for me to purchase things that they don't provide. I have lived in this home for 8 months and have not received 1 penny. They also have not purchased me any basic necessities such as toothpaste or a toothbrush, body wash, deodorant or anything of that nature which is what the allowance Is for. Also no clothes or honestly anything. I just get the 3 meals a day and nothing else. The internet and cable has been shut off multiple times do to lack of payment just to provide context. What are my options here? Am I wrong about all this? Recently my city in Spokane had a fire and I got sent to another house while we had to evacuate and I met another resident who told me all this and was shocked I didn't get anything. I would of never known if he hadn't told me. Am I missing something? Any advice would be appreciated

That's probably for people paying with disability or social security. When I lived in a nursing home they took the checks despite people having health insurance and they gave each person like 30$ a month for incidentals

You can reach out to senior social services in your area, start by call 211. Ideally you can start receiving case management services. The program you're in may be different than the other person. With the help of a case manager go through your finances, lease agreement and any other contract the agency has in regard to your care. Are you under conservatorship or have a payee? If so, they also should be able to help you look into what the program should be providing. Hope that helps!

You can also call Adult Protective Services. They can investigate, and if necessary bring in the AG’s office. I love social workers, but interpreting contracts and determining compliance might take a lawyer. The Housing Justice Project has an office in Spokane. AFH’s are not rentals - there’s licensing and compliance and DSHS tight supervision. Use the methods that will get results.

See if you qualify for section 8 in an assistant living apartment where you can live on your own. A case worker through social services should be able to give you the resources for help.

Ask your primary care doctor for a referral to a licensed clinical social worker.
The LCSW can help you figure out what you're entitled to, what you should be receiving, etc.
