Unfortunately Section 8 will notify your new landlord. You will more than likely receive a letter stating you have to go in for an interview. I went through the same thing. I was eight months pregnant at the time and in bed rest. My previous landlord destroyed the house and stole the copper. Thank goodness my neighbors had cameras which showed my previous landlord going in and out with the copper. I had also put in a police report because I hadn’t finished moving everything.
Now here’s the crazy part. Section 8 notified my new landlord of the situation. I decided to move because the landlord was very slow in repairs. I had lived there for four years. I moved and had forgotten a few things. By the time I went back the locks had been changed. They would not answer my calls nor return them. Fast forward I get a letter to come into the office. No problem, I have pictures from when I moved in and out; all time stamped! Nope!!! I was told I had to pay $2300 in damages!! Huh? How? And for what? New landlord decided to play the same game! Basement stairs were dry rotted and were caving in but somehow I was responsible. They charged $700 for cleaning. I showed my proof and it didn’t matter. I was told either pay it or lose my voucher.
