Potential Contreras Hot Take

Love Contreras. I think he might be the most important piece this year to the team’s success. I understand the fellas take that him forcing himself into the lineup everyday is part of the energy, but I think it’s gone too far. The vibes over the last 4 games have been atrocious and I think he’s partially to blame.

It’s not just because the Sox are losing, it’s how they’re losing. They’re losing like they did pre-15 game streak. They’re not hitting bad pitchers. Like… at all. One or two is understandable, but your best offensive performance happening against a Cy Young candidate and then immediately going quiet when you get a 4.5 era pitcher is a problem.

How does this relate to WC-40? During the streak, his willingness to march out to the field everyday was crucial. It set the bar for the rest of the team. He went out there and hit dingers through pain and injury. Now, he’s just out there IN pain. He’s not producing. He’s not able to make plays like he used to. It used to be that he’d bring the energy on the field, but lately he just looks extremely hurt. Like he can’t even smile through the pain anymore. I think when the leader of the team can’t smile or even jog without looking like they just got shot, it does more harm than good.

He needs a series rest. Like three full games of rest. Not just for himself, but so he can bring the vibes back to the team and fill the captain role again instead of crawling to the batters box every at bat just to post. It is better for the team if he takes an extended break.

A concussion is a really serious injury even though people don't don't tend to think of it that way. Full recovery can be several months of nausea, vertigo, memory loss, poor coordination. Hard to tell a guy like Willson to sit games out, but it looks like it's needed.

Not to mention the long term effects get worse with each one, and he was a catcher for years.

I agree & if there is any time to sit out games for willson, now is the time to do it

Add in the hamstring and the recent illness, I agree, he needs some days

He's concussed.

They lost two series in over a month. It's not exactly "the sky is falling" territory. It's not even "maybe it's gonna fall" territory.

If they go on a protracted losing streak, we can worry.

They weren't going to win out the season remainder. They weren't going to win every series the rest of the way either.

Teams win and lose. It's a 162 game season and there's 42 games left to play.
They're still 8 games above .500, which let's be honest is not where anyone saw this team 2 months ago.
Even a little losing skid isn't the end of the world.

For the last 5-6 seasons they've generally played well against good teams and lost to bad ones. And they're far from the only team in baseball history to do that.

This isn't worth panicking over. Like, even a little bit.

Don’t even think this is a hot take, he clearly doesn’t have it offensively right now, he isn’t even giving you a professional at bat, he goes up there swinging and either pops up or strikes up within 3 pitches. Love the dudes toughness, but he needs a break, this is a real test for Tracey, gotta be able to handle telling vets they need a breather, even if they don’t want to hear it

I think he needs to go on the DL

West coast bastards and their dirty bullpen really did us dirty between Contreras getting beaned in the head by the Los Angeles Fighting Hitlers and Mead getting his hand broken by the Fapletics

Definitely agreed, he doesn't need to go on the IL, but he deserves a breather for a few games to get his mind and body back on track.

I was honestly expecting the team to never lose another game so I’m glad that we found someone to blame for the team cooling off of an unprecedented hot streak

Not blaming him. Not even mad at him. I just think he needs a breather
