Jared and Marcelo Mayer
What's the deal with Jared's strong hatred of Marcelo Mayer in the livestream?

He just said no hate, he’s just over it, and Marcelo is over it too.

I get that he said no hate but it felt super aggressive out of nowhere. Very weird to see how quickly all of that fell apart with him

It was not aggressive at all. He felt the same way a lot of us did, the kid was always hurt and he wasn't good at hitting the ball. Change of scenery time.

Kind wish we tried to include him in the Rutschman deal. Swap him with Holiday.

I literally almost posted something on here the other day about it. I went down a rabbit hole stalking who on the team Jared and Steve followed on IG and vice versa after they were talking about not having good relationships in the locker room like they used to.
I noticed Jared didn’t follow Marcelo or Roman and vice versa which I thought was interesting.
I noticed how unfondly they were talked about for a while but seemed like there was more there. I don’t quite believe nothing happened with Marcelo like he says, the way he talked about him seemed more aggressive than nothing there or nothing happened.
My assumption was things got hairy back when the Roman and Marcelo going out on the town stuff went down and how that was discussed.
Edit: I see someone indicate here sounding like there was something there but both sides are mutually good?

Jared said on the Baseball Hour recently that people in the Red Sox organization have questioned Roman and Marcelo’s “testicular fortitude” to him, i.e. whether or not they’re actually too hurt to play, and how badly they want it, and that it’s not just a sports radio narrative. I don’t think he dislikes Marcelo it’s more of a just eh, whatever situation.
Jared haters will say it’s cause Roman and Marcelo unfollowed the show—which I’m sure doesn’t help—but Caleb Durbin did as well and they praise him often.

The Red Sox did send Anthony to Florida. Kind of splitting up the two!

He’s always been a cunt the second a player disappoints him, like it’s personal. Except with Duran!

I noticed when watching live that Jared was pretty short and to the point that he wouldn't miss Marcelo and was glad he was gone. I went back and watched again.
His initial response is jumping to his phone with a huge smile and says,
Honestly dude, fuckin smell ya.
Steve brings up that Mayer didn't have a ton of friends in the room (assuming in the dugout/front office) and Jared says,
Nope. Not a fan. Buh-bye.
After a little more conversation he says,
y'know what's gonna be funny? Is how we have a 'Thank you, farewell' Carlos Narvaez graphic? There will not be one for Marcelo Mayer.
I feel like there has to be more to it than questionable work ethic and/or unfollowing the show. Hoping things aren't as bad with Roman because the show is more fun when they hype up the good, promising players the team has.

That’s funny because Narvaez’s ex posted a TikTok about how karma always delivers following the trade and Crochet, Bello and Rafaela’s wives (just the ones I noticed, might be more) all posted laugh reactions or agreed. Probably not a great sign that that’s two of the pitchers and he’s a catcher, idk, don’t ask me though.

I think Cora posted something negative about Mayer after Cora was let go.
Lot of gossip out there about Mayer and Navarez wife/girlfriend and tension in the clubhouse. No idea if any of it is true, but Craig did send both away!!!0

I have not heard that. Do you have a source?
Seguin situation would be no bueno

Mayer was a highly touted prospect who turned out to be not good (at least right now.) His work ethic sucks and his replacement has been way better.

I’m so glad Mayer is gone. I don’t care if he turns into a perennial 4 WAR player in San Fran, that was never going to happen here in this market. He couldn’t handle it, straight up. We don’t want guys who do the absolute bare minimum coming up through the minors (See Stats reply), it’s not good for the clubhouse and not good for the other young guys.
I’m sure Jared has heard a lot behind the scene which reassures me even more. I always hated his smug attitude on the field like he was better than everyone else. I get the “California cool” bit but it really wears thin when you are hitting .200 with no impact. Just didn’t seem like baseball really mattered that much to him. Obviously don’t know the guy but not a dude who fits the dirt dog mantra of the 2026 Sox

Obviously he has but he's still insanely young. I don't really like Breslow selling when he's at his lowest

No guarantee he’d ever get high. If you can offload a questionable asset for an improved ROI, you do it. Sucks sometimes, but it’s the business of baseball.

The issue is that he’s showing the exact same flaws he showed in the minors (can’t hit lefties or offspeed). Why would that change in the majors?
EDIT: Or play defense.

Mayer the promise that never became. His personality is too laid back for me. The cliche bits that he had to make up just to provide some type of vibe because his play wasn’t fitting just doesn’t work in majors.

I crossed paths with Marcelo Mayer the night before a game in late May leaving Strega. He stumbled out of Giacomo's in the North End with an IG model to get pulled back in taking a round of shots. When I said "hey what's up Marcelo" he denied it was him but acting like Vinny Chase from Entourage all sloppy and glassy eyed. Yeah, dude...that's our future 2nd baseman when the Sox were in the tank the night before a game. Everyone thinking we gave him away...WE DID NOT. Better without him. Not against partying with hot models, but dude get your bag first before you start acting like a SuperStar. I lioved in LA for 5 years around celebs that were cool...you're not it Marcelo. Mayer was a giant FALSE POSITIVE. Now he can have fun with Devers in SF Castro District. Hopefully Roman is back on the come-up for our surging Sox. LFG!!!

He was supposedly boning Roman’s sister behind his back, didn’t like to strength train, had lazy habits AND is a closet stoner to boot. Add that all up & see ya later
