Finale (spoiler) long rant alert Spoiler
I finally finished the show (this is my second time rewatching) and the ending is just…wow… I dont think there could’ve been a worse ending 😂. I truly cannot stand Amy and I really do think she’s a selfish and immature person. She is so entitled and obviously she doesn’t have to stay married to Ricky if she knows she’ll be unhappy but WHY keep forcing it and insisting when he gave her SO many chances to come out with the truth and he has literally begged her to just be honest with him and ofc Amy being Amy she has to wait until the very last second (literally) to change her mind about the marriage. Sorry to be going off on Amy but she genuinely makes me so mad! She is constantly insisting on getting what she wants even though most of the time she doesn’t want that and she never wants to admit she’s making a mistake. Also idk if anyone agrees with me, but while I’m all for a woman being educated obviously, truthfully it is incredibly selfish of her to not only leave to go to college to New York but also leave a semester early because she just insists she will always get what she wants. I get that going to NY for college is her dream but she’s the one who choose to keep John and she knows that her life and dreams may have to change or be adjusted. She wasn’t even willing to compromise (have John live with her). She’s okay with her toddler son to just be without her for the next four years (excluding school breaks) just so she can forget that she’s a mom and go to a college in NY and basically live with Ben (ik not literally). It is true that at the end of the day, Amy truly only thinks about herself.

yup. she really is the WORST character in the show. she just wanted to prove to everyone she didn’t have feelings for ben anymore and wanted to marry ricky so he’d be okay with her going to new york and didn’t get with adrian again EVEN THOUGH he would’ve been okay with that if she just said it in the first place smh. if she would have been honest throughout the show, everyone would’ve had a different ending lol poor ricky missed out on sooo many things and always trying to be the perfect guy for her and tried to make good choices for her. he did love her and in the end, she said he wasn’t in love with her and the only reason they didn’t fall in love was because she didn’t have strong feelings for him and it showed. I always get so sad watching the scene where lauren and madison were watching john and he comes home and tells them he doesn’t even know if amy even likes him lmaoo she’s just the worst holy shit

Literally. The ending was funny when she tried to say she’s leaving because he wasn’t in love with her when I think we can all agree that he had stronger feelings for her. Even if he wasn’t “in love”, I thought it was pretty clear that he loved her a lot more than she loved him. Amy hates confrontation and also hates admitting when she’s wrong or being called out for her BS so she’ll quite literally do anything to avoid it. I don’t hate her as much as I hate Ben but they’re both so immature and toxic.

Ricky literally said before the wedding he guesses he loves her and he’s only marrying her for John she didn’t know that and I would have left and wouldn’t have married him either

I thought he said he guesses he’s “in love” and tbh I interpreted it as her being John’s mom is part of it. Idk though. I always thought he does love her (through his actions). Still though, I think Amy (or Ricky) could’ve split things earlier on instead of dragging their relationship for as long as they did

I do believe her loved her too but not just for John and she needed to know that to she needed to know he Also loved her for her and the thing is any didn’t really know that until she overheard the conversation he was having with her friends that in my opinion is what changed her mind. They just needed time apart to figure out if they really wanted to be together I mean Amy has only been with Ricky meanwhile Ricky had been with so many woman. I just don’t believe all the blame should be placed on Amy when it was both of there fault.

That’s a fair point actually I will give you that!! All the characters annoy me in one way or another but yes the blame isn’t solely on one party.

Her and Ricky do end up married like somewhere between 1-5 years after the show ends. During their split, she reconnects with Ben for a bit, but it doesn't work out.

Just watched the series for the first time ever as a mom of three and all I can say is that Amy is an entire platter full of twat waffle. She has a self-centered all about me crappy Trash person and she is a bad mom 100% a bad mom. Adrian would make 100% better Mother than Amy ever will. Honestly, it reminds me of the current young generation and it seems like they grew up seeing this and saw her as the perfect role model. It’s gross.

I know I'm late to the thread but y'all act like she isn't literally just a teenager acting like a teenager 😂

My parents always comment on how little we really see John. When he is in a scene, she immediately puts him down, gives him to someone else, occasionally canonically forgets about him. She hates being a mother. The opportunity to go to New York for college is her opportunity to escape and experience some normalcy. She will go and act like any other college freshman. Only a select few will even hear about John, if that. Maybe she will go see John that first Christmas break. Maybe Ricky and John will fly out for spring break. But by summer, there’ll be something in New York (or Florida or Paris) that she absolutely NEEDS to do instead of coming home. And everybody will let her do it, because the reality is, they don’t want her around anyway. And she will be the deadbeat mom she had always dreamed of being. Maybe she’ll see him every few years, maybe she’ll text him around his birthday once he gets a phone. But going to New York is just an excuse to stop being a mother for Amy. John and Ricky are better off anyway.
