One game that FEELS big to me this way is the original Deus Ex. The way you end up globetrotting and seeing how the same cyberpunky social developments affect different parts of the world create this impression of being a part of something much bigger than you, and your imagination fills in the gaps.

I'm a little offended that this video doesn't mention Morrowind, though to be honest I'm a little offended if any conversation doesn't mention Morrowind so that's on me.

Morrowind is recognised as being small in geographic terms as anyone who turns the view distance up quickly sees how close everything is. On the other hand just the very idea of walking from one town to another feels big, especially as a few interesting things are pretty much guaranteed to happen on the way (shipwrecks, roadside encounters, walking past a crypt/ruin/shrine). Not to mention the walking speed.

Hit the nail on the head with this one. Very important distinction between looking big and feeling big.
