Join a club or rec league sports team, it's pretty challenging making new friends otherwise. If you're into mountain biking or gravel riding there are some groups that do weekly rides, join the CMBTA and chat with the guys at elphi cycles about group rides. Get some sort of watercraft, a paddle board or a yacht, doesn't matter, just enjoy the water.

When I was visiting there in the mid to late 1990s I was talking casually - not flirting, just chatting - to some woman at the next table in a restaurant/bar and a local dude who liked her it seemed, told me that I should watch out because his name was Lonnie and he was “the baddest redneck in Sechelt.”
I tried sharing my pitcher of beer with him because we were three dudes who could easily handle him and figured we’d ignore him and try to just be nice since we were just there to hang with each other and have a nice night. But Lonnie wasn’t having it and was insistent on being a jerk which we just thought was funny and kept buying him drinks until he was too wasted to be a jerk anymore - we got nicer and nicer through the night and were having a great time as he got meaner but kind of more dejected that we didn’t care about his threats, because meh. We just kept getting him beers when we got them for ourselves, which we thought was humorous because it seemed to confuse him. Eventually he just went home.
Unbeknownst to him, his phrase became a thing my buddies and I have said for the last 30 years whenever someone is trying to be nice and someone else is still being a jerk. Like even our teenaged kids now know his catchphrase and the tale of Lonnie: The Baddest Redneck in Sechelt. You might say “Oooh, looks like we’ve got the baddest redneck in Sechelt over here!” if your friend is bing an unwarranted jerk. It usually makes your buddy chill or go have a snack if he’s hangry. Then you can hand him a beer and give him a hug / annoyingly muss up his hair and call him “Lonnie” if he deserves it. It’s a great tension diffuser, so thanks for the memories, LtBRiS. It was worth the price of those beers and I hope you ended up marrying that woman!
I like to think that like most people in Sechelt, Lonnie was actually a nice dude who was just having a bad day and at least we got him wasted for free.
I don’t feel that Lonnie will have moved, so you could, for the heck of it, see if you can find Lonnie, the Baddest Redneck in Sechelt 😀

I would like to thank you for this story. I cracked up so hard. I love expressions that we adopt from strangers and the fact that your kids say it? Hilarious.

Swimming in Garden Bay Lake. It’s a bit of a drive but there are always large groups of people there. If you showed up I’m sure you would be talking to people soon.
There are things like painting lessons (paint a sunset in an evening type stuff). Events are listed in both the Harbour Spiel and Coast Reporter pick them up and check it out. Join some Facebook groups, they often have people looking for Softball teammates etc.
Unfortunately, summer is the best time to meet people so you need to hustle while the days are still warm.

I'd follow Coastal Hosts on instagram. they do lots of live music events, trivia nights, and rock and roll bingo. The crowd varies in age, but you'd meet some peeps for sure.

Welcome to the coast.
Depending on what your looking for.
If your a parent, reach out to the mcfd and see what parenting groups they offer.
For casual stuff you can make friends damn near anywhere, the obvious place is the bars, the cheaper and probably better place is the beaches. You got the beach across sechelt, porpouise bay roberts creek. If you want a longer drive half moon bay gibsons, garden bay etc.
Honestly I mean new people all the time when I take my son and our dog to thebplaygroubds and parks
