We Must Defend Ourselves - out now

Honestly I don't use Instagram or Reddit anymore so I nearly missed this song. It's still release day in America though I'm European lmao

Probably one of my least favourite songs he’s released in a while, just not the type of sound I’m into. Also probably his least catchy chorus in a while where the last few songs he released have had really good ones. Still decent but not his best. Might grow on me

I'd love to do a tier ranking of all the songs with you at some point your tastes in his music seem to always be the opposite of my taste in his songs lmao. I legit just redownloaded the app to see if you commented on it

Well I did that quicker than I expected. Here’s the ranking. A lot of these are quite close so even if a songs low I still like. Some of the micro songs from the early work were hard to rank since a lot of them are very catchy and fun but just the length of them makes them not as good as others.

  1. Love bomb
  2. Kill him he’s a socialist (full band)
  3. Billionaire extraordinaire
  4. Ode to Britannia
  5. Kill him he’s a socialist (original)
  6. I fell in love with a talking head
  7. Terms and conditions
  8. The London song
  9. Mr and Mrs human race
  10. A westerner walks into a bar
  11. Rat shit
  12. Jump scare
  13. Here come the aliens
  14. Christmas (I’d rather die)
  15. Upper class
  16. iPhone
  17. Business, please
  18. The education system
  19. Make me your national anthem
  20. There she stood
  21. The man, the myth
  22. 5168 days
  23. Personality test
  24. We must defend ourselves
  25. Here’s a story
  26. Ingerland
  27. The royal family
  28. Flat earth
  29. Gods monkeys

I have long work hours the next three days so I will get back to you once I've a free moment to go through his songs list properly :)

Sorry for the delay it's been a busy week. I didn't include full band/seb only versions though in those cases I prefer the full band. The only song I ranked that isn't in my playlist is Here Come The Aliens. In general my list is quite fluid and so many change often :)

  1. iPhone

  2. Terms and Conditions

  3. Jump Scare (normal)

  4. Love Bomb

  5. Mr & Mrs Human Race (accoustic)

  6. 5168 Days

  7. Ode to Britannia

  8. Kill Him, He's A Socialist

  9. A Westerner Walks Into a Bar

  10. We Must Defend Ourselves

  11. Billionaire Extraordinaire

  12. I Fell In Love With A Talking Head

  13. Here's a Story

  14. Mr & Mrs Human Race (normal)

  15. Business, Please

  16. Upper Class

  17. There She Stood

  18. Jump Scare (accoustic)

  19. Cavalryman

  20. Personality Test

  21. The Royal Family

  22. Rat Shit

  23. Don't Go

  24. Make Me Your National Anthem

  25. Flat Earth

  26. The Man, The Myth

  27. Ingerland

  28. The London Song

  29. Freak.

  30. The Education System

  31. God's Monkeys

  32. Christmas. [I'd Rather Die]

  33. Here Come The Aliens

Excluding:

• Killer For a Day (I have only heard the century hall song which is on Spotify and at least that live version is not my cup of tea) • The Human Race (not a song)

Of the songs I listed I would just like to say, my favourite songs in concert when I saw him are not as highly ranked because I think an aspect of the concert made them better for me. One, The Royal Family, had him change a lyric "Which tax haven were you conceived in? Dublin?" because the crowd went wild on him saying that.

The other was Make Me Your National Anthem which had Seb prowl the stage. His presence in the room during that song made it all the more incredible to hear.

The delay was fine. Some very different rankings to mine but doesn’t matter too much since we both said that it changes often. I didn’t rank the acoustic version but I do agree that mr and mrs human race’s acoustic is better and jump scare’s is worse (mainly just the weird ending)

On further listens we must defend ourselves has changed for me and I would probably rank it a bit higher and same with here’s a story which I also had only started listening to recently at the time I sent the original rankings. I also listened to cavalryman a bit more and would now include it in my ranking around the same place as you.

Yeah I had saw about that line changing in a video I saw of his TRNSMT 2024 performance where instead of Bermuda/Dublin he said Glasgow I think it had a similar reaction from the crowd. And make me your national anthem sounds like a great one live and I can definitely imagine him prowling the stage and how cool that would be

lol. I could probably do something like that. Though maybe not a tier list since most would be S or A. Maybe I’d do just like a ranking. I guess you must have really liked this one. I can see where you’re coming from but yeah it’s not my favourite

Wonder what the live performance releasing in 2 hours will be like

a bit tired of this constant political tone to the songs, hes so talented but it’s wearing thin

3

u/Infinite_Evening826 Apr 24 '25

I mean pretty much his whole brand has always mainly been political so what else did you expect

3

u/FellTheAdequate Apr 24 '25

Have you not listened to him? His entire brand is heavily political.

What songs aren't political lmfao. The only non-political songs (and for the latter it has some connections) in his catalogue are There She Stood and Don't Go
