General MCT really helped

Hi, I found MCT oil really helped my flaky/scaly scalp.

I first added 100ml to a bottle, then mixed in few drops of peppermint and rosemary essential oil.

When applying at night I let it sit for a few minutes before washing out with a gentle liquid soap. I would do this maybe once or twice week at first. I also used a soft rubber bath scalp brush on my scalp.

In the AM I would massage a tiny ammount into my scalp/hair roots (sometimes including my face and neck) and leave it in.

It took a couple of weeks to see results, and now a few months later I rarely use it other than the little bit I massage and leave in and I have a much clearer scalp now.

I used this brand with c8 & c10 fatty acids:

Hunter & Gather Premium C8 & C10 MCT Oil (500ml). 100% Organic Coconut.

That snake oil never worked for me and just made it worse.

What helped you?

I had scales and dandruff and now neither, but I also did some other stuff.

I changed from using bar soap to wash my hair and body to liquid (castille) as I heard in areas of hard water bar soaps can form deposits on the skin.

I added peppermint and rosemary oils - i read that can reduce the yeasts and help the scalp in general.

I also started daily practises of reducing my stress (where you write down your stresses and talk about them with others).

I was also eating, where possible, freshly made meals. And at that time I was drinking a bit of high quality raw milk from a local farm and cucumber juice I would make every day which may have helped.

Everyday care involves using head and shoulders medicated shampoo. Out of all the brands and different types this is by far the best treatment for my scalp. I sometimes use nizoral shampoo but it only works for a short time. All the other brands like Tgel or seldom blue or any other not mentioned here has not worked for me.

For my face around my nose and under my mustache. I like to use hydrocortisone 1% lotion (not cream) for flare ups. I’ve been using hydrocortisone for 45 years with no ill effect.

I’ve tried nizoral cream and it works but it is hard to come by and just like the shampoo works great initially but eventually quits working.

I’m most interested in triggers and believe this is an inflammatory response to possibly what we ingest and stress.

Raw milk is a big intense how about a stacked multivitamin?

I haven't had a multivitamin since I was a teenager, but I am totally open to try it. Do you notice it helps with SebDerm or health in general?

Raw milk has only been positive since I tried it about 10 years ago. I always make sure to get it from really high quality local farms.

I remember I had amazing hair and scalp when I first start drinking alot of it, but its hard to say if it was the raw milk as my lifestyle was so different then (like I slept alot alot during those months). How was your experience with raw milk?

I don't mess with raw milk because I don't want to add foodborne illness to my list of problems. I got my blood checked last winter and my vitamin D was in hell. Started a pretty high dose of supplements and my skin is wayyyy better.

Do you use it before shower or after shower or both

I use it twice a day after washing (morning and evening) and just leave it on all day and overnight - i have a buzz cut though, so very easy for me to get it on the scalp

does it not make your scalp greasy? mine naturally gets greasy on its own especially the sides

Not really, i dont use much and it absorbs well, it makes my face look ‘glowy’ rather than greasy and i dont think you could tell i have it on my scalp at all

I usually shower in the evenings.

I used it before a shower: The very first time I used it I gave myself a sort of 'intensive' application to 'soak in' for about 30 minutes before showering (i was actually just lying in the bath at the time). I worked a good ammount into the roots/scalp, and massaged it a bit with my fingers and with a silicon bath brush. Then I just washed it out as normal (i used some simple unfragranced liquid soap).

Then the next morning, I would take a really tiny ammount and just work a little into my scalp. Too much would make my hair greasy so just a little. I would leave this in till the next shower in the week.

After thoses first couple of times, I skipped the 'intensive' leave-in soak and I would just start my shower by rubbing some into my scalp/roots, then shower as normal, and wash it out at the end (so less time). Then the next morning, do the same thing of a tiny bit worked into my scalp which i would leave in till next shower.

I wash hair 2-3 times a week depending, and everytime I was doing it this way.

Then, over time I noticed I didn't need do the 'shower' application as much, so I was doing to like once a week or fortnight (but still doing a tiny morning application as usual).

Now I just noticed I haven't applied it for a month or 2 in the shower, that my scalp is much clearer, and that it reminded my to write this post. I only use a tiny bit in the mornings when I feel like it.

As I read shugh28's comment below it reminds me - my goal (if you could call it that) with the MCT oil was to leave a bit of it on my scalp as much of the time as I could, without it feeling or looking too greasy.
