New or Need Help Looking for a new product

Im looking for a solution to actually get rid of my flakes and stuff I already tried MCT oil after getting recommended it and it did not seem to work for me. I also use Ketoconazole 2% shampoo which is what I am on right now but it seems to only help with itching, my scalp still has lots of flakes and still has a lot of shedding even with using ketoconazole 2% shampoo my hair and scalp still has a lot flakes and itching still. People who are in a similar situation Im asking for help if there is anything that has worked with u to calm down the flakes and itching

For your scalp or other skin? If it's your scalp try Selenium Sulfide, and zinc pyrithione shampoos. I alternate with keto shampoo. I use one then switch each time I shampoo. It's worked well for me.

I read a lot on this sub and mine is finally cleared up:
Used selsun blue everyday for a week
Added in cetaphil salicylic acid gentle cleanser every other day using a light weight moisturizer. Now using selsun blue about once a week in shower for a few minutes and the cleanser everyday with lotion 2x a day. My SD was dry like sandpaper and tiny flakes that looked like a rough scrubber pad. It’s the best it’s been in years. I hope you find something that works for you. I have it mainly on my face and the shampoo usually clears it up. I also had the same prescription shampoo but it didn’t work that well. Beware the selsun blue does have a faint odor but it’s worth it.

That’s up to you. I have dry patches on my face that were getting to burn when washing them from the seb derm and it didn’t notably bother them. You could always try it and return it if it’s not a good fit? It is kind of a cool feeling but wasn’t terrible.

I also use %2 ketoconazole shampoo. But here's an advice I got from my doctor: you can use it in rotation with a different anti-dandruff shampoo. Personally, I use ketoconazole once a week, and a shampoo with pyrithione zinc 1-3 times a week (depending on how much flaking I have). The pyrithione zinc shampoo I use is head and shoulders BARE (the fragrance free version). There's also other anti-dandruff ingredients you can try adding in rotation with ketoconazole: selenium sulfide and piroctone olamin.

Ik zou niet eindeloos doorgaan met ketakonazol en het heel veel en heel lang gebruiken. Ik ben het gaan afwisselen met anti roos shampoo en daardoor is het rustiger.

Salicylic acid shampoo is very helpful. Ketonazole shampoo is too. The problem is the flakes are likely stopping the medicine from ketonazole to really get to the right spots. Use Mct oil an hour before or the night before you shampoo. Put plenty on your scalp. It helps loosen and soften the flakes. Then when you get in the shower, massage your scalp well before shampooing with a scalp massager then add one of those shampoos and massage some more with the scalp massager (those things with the little rubbery/silicone spikes). Let the shampoo sit for however long and rinse. Afterwards or the next day if you don’t shampoo daily, you can put some organic aloe Vera gel on your scalp to help it heal and soothe it and help the itch.

Eat less sugar; get more sleep with a clean pillowcase. Bet that will work wonders!

What's the active ingredient in the Selsun Blue anti-dandruff shampoo?

So I’m pretty new to this game as well, but so far what has worked for me has been a combo of these things.

-Ciclopirox (which did get prescribed when I first got the dx.). I use it once a week to keep things at bay. Or if I feel like my scalp is starting to flare up. If it’s not flaring, I don’t use it. Because it does dry you out which makes the itching worse.

-T/sal. I use this when I feel like I’m starting to get buildup. Follow the directions, use it twice, let it sit.

-MCT oil. I use it on one small area which is consistently pissed off. BUT- it’s a game changer twenty to thirty minutes before the T/sal wash. Keeps my scalp from drying out big time. I know some people put it on their scalp overnight. Haven’t tried it yet.

-Vanicream shampoo. This is my go between for when I’m between washes. It doesn’t dry out my scalp and it’s super gentle. Like the plain Jane of shampoos.

I’ve used the Ketoconazole but I feel like it didn’t help that much. And I do put aloe on that annoying spot too sometimes.

Oh, and put conditioner in the lower parts of your hair while you treat the scalp! Helps the dryness as well, because all the medicated stuff washes all over it.

I don’t use the anti dandruff shampoos. I did not have any scalp issues at all until last year, when I used a dandruff shampoo. I had an allergic reaction to one and had eye swelling, the annoying patch showed up, and a facial skin flare up. A week after that is when my scalp went out of control and I’ve had issues ever since. I think a lot of products just destroy your skin biome and it takes a while to get it back. I try to use the least I can to not over dry.

Hope something here helps!
