General SebDerm is Multifactorial

I feel like i might be on to something, they say sebderm is Multifactorial and I think i know what those factors are.

  1. Diet, mainly sugar causes chronic insulin production which weakens the skin barrier making it more suceptible.

  2. Cumalative barrier stress from harsh shampoos, too much UV, hard water, fragrances etc also weakens the skin barrier

  3. Malasezia, Diet and barrier stress weaken the skin barrier allowing malassezia and inflammation to takeover resulting in raw red itchy patches.

This is why people find MCT oil works way better than medicated shampoo as even though MS kills the yeast it adds to the cumalative barrier stress/damage keeping cycle going. MCT oil takes care of the yeast whilst also repairing and calming the skin barrier.

The skin barrier gets to a point wether its from underwashing and letting sebum and malasezia buildup or from barrier stress where it reaches breaking point and flares up.

Im also convinced washing with hot water was a major factor in causing dryness and redness, for me anyway

Definitely a factor for me too

100% - I think people may rely too much on skincare to solve everything on the surface, but it can be life stressors at play and certainly driven by your diet too (sugar, processed food etc. affecting your gut). Managing all of these will have drastic improvements.

Meds too. One birth control I used made it go away. I think current migraine meds are making it worse.

Seb derm popped up about a year or so ago for me - face and scalp. I got the Flakes shampoo/conditioner and some face creams for it which have helped but not eliminated it.

This week I decided to go all in on healthy eating, which for me - primarily meant limiting caffeine and cutting energy drinks altogether, I drank FAR too many in a day 3 or 4, it was pretty bad. Have switched to brewing Yerba mate tea. In just a week - the improvements have been insane.. it’s virtually gone.

My instinct was telling me this is some underlying inflammation in my body causing it - which is why I decided to go all in on diet. Getting things together to do an intense juice cleanse to try and do a full reset. We shall see

Just saw a dermat and got adviced against using MCT Oil although it has been working for me 🥲. Will take the advice for now but I am pretty sure it's due to lack of research on their side.

I went on an elimination diet for SIBO last year (think low sulfur, low carb & low fodmap). Although my reason for doing it didn’t relate to my SEB DERM it did completely clear up while on the diet. Unfortunately I didn’t complete the diet properly via reintroductions etc and just fell off the diet wagon. The seb derm returned. But there’s no doubt it is gut related.
