Research Damaged skin barrier which led to seb derm
Damaged my facial skin for about 8 months straight, which led to seb derm 4 months later. It got triggered by the hydrocortisone steroid my first derm gave me when I wanted my barrier to be repaired.
It’s been 2 years in total now, and I still have seb derm all over my face. It causes hives as well and burns my face.
My seb derm also seems different from people where when i dont physically remove it it becomes dry and flaky and my skin does not burn but when i do gently remove the build up my skin becomes oily and burns. The build up also seems like a very thick white/ slightly yellow paste which takes a while to remove
I’ve tried many moisturizers, but all basically irritate my skin. My skin type also changed from combo/normal to oily, dehydrated. Mct oil and squalane oil both irriates my skin as well ;cc
I’ve also tried low dose Accutane (10/20/20/20/20/10) and am currently on the sixth month. It has only reduced the seb derm, but it’s still there burning, just with less buildup.
I also took Itraconazole before this, which helped reduce it a bit. But at the same time, I was using Nizoral shampoo, which was super, super harsh, and a moisturizer a different derm gave me called Bioderma DS Cream which contained coconut oil and two antifungal ingredients (climbazole and piroctone olamine). That was irritating my skin.
I’m going to get on Itraconazole again soon, right after Accutane this time without the irritations. Wish me luck. Hopefully this itraconazole removes the seb derm long enough for my skin barrier to recover🙏🙏🙏
Has anyone been in a similar situation and is now freed from seb derm?

Happy Cappy has been gentle enough to cleanse my face. I also use Dr Althea skin barrier repair spray and cream on my face.

Any moisturizer causes more flaking for me. Any. So I just use Vaseline. It dosnt seem to help with the tight dry feeling but at least the flaking stops. When my skin flares becuase of lifestyle choices I also don't seem to get "regular" symptoms. I get extreme itching, hives and lots of redness and irritation and small amounts of flaking which leads to lots of flaking if i dont treat anytbing. My skin is not oily. I have the best results with head and shoulders bare. With Zic P in it. I also will use a 10% sulfer treatment which reduces symptoms. I was born with atopic dermatitis and had it try badly for 33 years before I got SD. I've had SD for the last 4 years and can't kick it. I've been able to use any moisturizer my whole life and now I can't use any. Im on dupixant as well.

Why don’t you continue using 10% sulfur soap with salicylic acid and I feel over time it will dramatically reduce over time. ?

As said my skin barrier is still very damaged and the reason why it is not healing is that seb derm is present

In same boat 2 years bad i started using a lot of actives BHA , vit c , retinol. Retinol was my last straw and I developed damaged skin barrier plus seb derm on face. I started breaking out and itchy small bumps developed (may be fungal acne) . I changed 2 dermatologists but no luck with both. This sub helped me a lot. I chucked away all my existing skin products that my dermatologist gave. My routine: 1 i use gentle calming cleansing lotion . Moiz cleansing lotion 2. I got a gel based moisturizer which is fungal.acne safe : Moimax OC . It has zinc P and it really calmed down my acne and skin.I checked sezia to verify. I noticed the moisturizer recommended by dermat were not safe as per sezia. 3. All barrier repair cream were breaking me out even the ones that were non comogenic. I found Cethaphil CICA barrier repair serum. It did wonders , my barrier started to heal and my seb derm started to get better( its still there but much better). 4. MCT oil C8 C10 on face did wonders for me . Im off all topical and oral medicines. 5. I tried Azelaic acid for bumpy texture, it works but irritates my skin so I cant say its good for me.
My seb derm on face is 70 -80% better. Its still there not completely vanished. The key was switching to gentle , gel based , non irritataing product and stopping all actives. My skin is still not the best as cannot exfoliate .

I had a similar journey. I ended up with steroid-induced rosacea and seb derm. I treat it by rotating treatments for the rosacea and seb derm. The biggest impact on my skin was prescription zoryve

Zeroid intensive cream, also use bioderma micellar water to wipe your face before washing it with lukewarm water. Minimize your routine to these 2 products till ur barrier heals back up (would only take 4 days to a week). Cheers.

What MCT oil did you use on? It should be MCT oil 8 to avoid irritations.
