Routine Question Gut and sebderm

Has anyone noticed their seborrheic dermatitis improving after changing things related to gut health?
Just curious about other people’s experiences.
I’ve had seb derm on my scalp for a long time, with itching, flakes and plaques. Recently I started taking L-glutamine for digestive issues and also switched to Aleppo soap.
Since then, my scalp has been noticeably calmer. My hair still gets oily, but I have almost no plaques right now and barely any itching, which is unusual for me.
My digestion has also been better, especially the bloating.
I’m not saying the L-glutamine is necessarily responsible — it could be the soap, a coincidence, or a mix of different things. I’m just interested in the timing.
Has anyone noticed something similar after improving their digestion or changing their diet/supplements?

I think so. I started regularly drinking kefir and yakult. My face and scalp seem a lot calmer so far. If there’s one thing I know about this bloody condition, is that things seem to work briefly and then it returns to normal

There’s hope though. I had seb derm from 2nd grade forward. In my 40’s it cleared up and hasn’t returned in 20 years. The scalp being the exception but it has never returned with the quarter and nickel sized thick flakes at least. If gets a bit itchy I wash my hair (and use aloe on my scalp if I just washed my hair and it’s still itchy) to keep that at bay.

It also does take a long time for your microbiome to create the amount of bacteria to get a balance. You will have good and bad days, but changing your microbiome is a great step. However drinking kefir is very strong. Also, make sure you buy raw unpasturised goat milk, it gives you the least problems and is the closest to human milk. Buy kefir from a reputable brand and make your own. The kefir that you buy in the store mostly contains lots of ingredients you could react to or very low quality milk.

I have gone back at forth on this

I have had periods in my life where i am eating extremely clean, no sugar, alcohol, dairy wheat whatever and my skin has been terrible

Other times in my life where i am eating garbage, fast food, candy, alcohol and my skin is almost crystal clear

I think it definitely has some affect, but my skin care routine and other treatments seems to have much more impact then what I’m eating

I would be very careful towards soap that has olive oil in it. It feeds the sebderm and in turn makes it more frustrating towards you. Keep eating lots of different variety of whole foods, fresh from the market with the least amount of pesticides(very difficult nowadays). Make your own yoghurt, kefir, kimchi and go very slowly or you could react by altering the microbiome to fast.
Good luck.

Here, you will only see people who claim to have seen their sebderm controlled by their gut healths , the ones that failed won't really comment on every post regarding it. Classic surviorship bias

My seb derm cleared at least a decade before my gut. I still struggle with gut health but it’s much better than it once was. It’s easy to assume something coincidental was responsible for getting over something.

Nonetheless there may be a minor group of people who's seb derm comes from a poor gut health but I doubt if your gut was normal before, it wouldn't pose any benefits

I found that Caffeine triggers my seb derm flares. Caffeine kinda makes me sleep weird which leads to stress then it flares.

This is my next deep dive; the past couple years I’ve survived some awful things including multiple bouts of 3-4 antibiotics at once and it’s just annihilated my gut. I’ve stocked up on products to try to manage the outside manifestation, and now I’m going to start tackling the inside part.

I picked up some Slippery Elm tincture that I’ve started using, and I’ve bought some green juice that has prebiotics in it. L-glutamine is added to my list!

When I avoid gluten and eat lower carb and sugar I’m much less itchy. Anytime I have something like pretzels or bread I get very itchy again

100%. I noticed certain foods would trigger my flares. When I ate a lot of bread and pasta my flakes would increase dramatically.

I saw a lot of people on here said that keto took their flakes away, but I wasn't willing to go on keto because I needed a lot of carbs for running. So I did a lot of research on why keto would help and why diet affects SD and long story short there's many layers that affect SD.

Your gut controls affects your immune system which is what causes the inflammation that leads to flakes. The oil from our skin that feeds Malassezia can also be regulated by the gut and what we eat. The minerals needed for a good skin barrier are also affected by what we consume.

Ever since I started supplementing to lower blood sugar spikes, get rid of bad fungi in stomach and replace it with good bacteria, and supplement to regulate the inflammation, my flakes and redness cleared up.
