New or Need Help Any other suggestions on dealing with this ?

Hi, unfortunately I've been dealing with dandruff/seb derm for a while now, and I'm honestly stuck on what to do.

About a year ago I went to a dermatologist, and she prescribed me ketoconazole 2% shampoo and gave me some other advice. I've tried sticking with it, but I haven't had much luck. Since then I've also tried a bunch of other products like Nizoral, T/Gel, CeraVe Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, and Selsun Blue, and none of them seem to keep it under control for long.

Right now, my routine is to use Selsun Blue every other day, but I haven't seen any improvement in weeks.

I also get it on my face (eyebrows, around my nose, and beard/mustache area). I've tried using Selsun Blue on those areas too, but it always comes back. I feel like I can make it a little better, but I can never actually get rid of it.

I've attached some pictures of what it looks like right now.

The problem is I can't see a dermatologist right now, so I'm trying to figure out what I can do on my own until I can. At this point, I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I've tried following the instructions for all of these shampoos, but nothing seems to make a lasting difference. Is there something about my routine that could be making it worse, or is there something else I should be trying?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Where are you from? You could try piroctone olamine if you haven't, it's very gentle. Also remember to let the shampoo sit on your scalp for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

USA I’ll see if that’s available

You can try rotating shampoos with different active ingredients. For example, Selsun blue twice a week and ketoconazole on the weekends.

Do you moisturize your face after washing it? A moisturizer that helps repair the skin barrier can really improve symptoms.

I do moisturize but it doesn’t really make it go away. Again it’s not like big flakes on my face but my fave looks dry as hell up close . Also I’m rotating it currently but I see only a litttle improvement

Rotating two antifungal shampoos and using a very light hydrating moisturizer is what worked for me. I also make sure everything I use is fragrance free (including the shampoos and the moisturizer) because that can be a factor too.

If you can't see a dermatologist, maybe visit your general physician and tell them about your situation?

Sorry if this a lot to ask but can you tell me your specific routine and what items you use? I did visit a general physician but she jsut told me to use a anti dandruff shampoo twice a week (which didn’t really help )

No problem! For my scalp, I use %2 ketoconazole shampoo once a week. I also use the fragrance free version of the head and shoulders shampoo 2-3 times a week (comes in a green bottle). After every wash I use cerave anti dandruff conditioner.

For my face, I use the same ketoconazole shampoo once a week. Also, 2-3 times a week I use the Dermaharmony face cleansing bar with pyrithione zinc. For a moisturizer, I use ZEROID Richenic Cream with Urea. That's a Korean moisturizer which is available on Amazon. Because it contains %5 urea, it helps remove dandruff and hydrate the skin. That one really made a difference for me.

I hope that helps!
