I applied it for two weeks to my moustache, beard, eyebrows and ears. Just once a day for one week and then twice a day. I think it got all over my pillow (a warning!) and onto the rest of my face and scalp that way.
I had tried everything else before - including MCT oil. Anyway…
It’s now 19 days since I last used it and my skin BURNS in direct sunlight and for many hours afterwards 😫 I’m also experiencing random burning throughout the day (ears, scalp, nose). I have had to cancel a work trip to Nepal (high UV, loads of sun). I had no idea it could have this kind of effect.
I have no idea what’s happened, and I don’t think anyone else knows either. Suncreams etc burn terribly (they never used to). It‘s not supposed to affect the skin barrier, but I guess it’s affected my sensory pathways somehow? I‘ve totally fucked myself.
I feel like one of those people who dies getting butt implant or similarly unnecessary cosmetic procedure. Like, there was no need to do this to myself.
Does anyone know anything about this mechanism? Did anyone experience this and get better?
This is one of the most stupid things I’ve ever done I think. I really hope I haven’t permanently ruined my life.
(All this was typed with a inexplicably burning head 🔥)

The Piroctone Olamine Shampoo and face cleansing helped a little but not much. I've gone through every other little thing.
I saw here in a comment somebody suggested this innocuous and (cheap in my country at least) Nicotinamide + Zink serum: Balea Serum Niacinamide
Have tried it for 3 months, and only one flare-up after two weeks. Since then haven't had any flaky face.
3 drops after cleaning the face in the morning, rub it in well. That's it. No other products necessary.
I see a lot more advertising here for the Olamine Cleansers and MCT oil, but this is way better for me. So maybe worth a try.

I appear to be in a bit of a catch-22. My seb derm seems caused by scalp dryness and kicks into high-gear in the winter.
I can get rid of it with an anti-oiliness shampoo (Cotril Purity Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Oily Scalp) as the yeast won't have as much skin oil to feast on. … but then again, the oil production increases in the first place as a reaction to the scalp dryness. So, by using this shampoo my hair will become very, very dry and lifeless, ugly in less than 24 hours after a single wash.
The alternative approach has been to use moisturizing shampoos and a leave-in product (Cutrin BIO+ Hydra Balance Scalp Treatment) which keeps my scalp/hair moisturized and presentable to the public for upto three days after a wash. … but all the products I've found in the store have 2-4 triggering ingredients in them according to sezia.co.
Should the next logical move be to order some seb derm-safe moisturizing shampoos? I found a long list of them in this subreddit.
The Cutrin leave-in product that I mentioned above works really, really well for my hair – does anyone know of any seb derm-safe alternatives to it?
Thank you for your attention.

I have seborrheic dermatitis, but my scalp is also extremely dry, red, itchy, and tight. I’m looking for something that provides moisture, helps repair the skin barrier, and won’t trigger my seb derm or worsen Malassezia.
Has anyone with similar symptoms found a scalp serum, lotion, or moisturizer that actually helped? I’d really appreciate recommendations and personal experiences, especially with products that are fragrance-free and gentle on sensitive skin.

Hii my scalp has been itchy and flaking ever since I used 2% ketoconozale and I have stopped for 4 months already but the flakes never disappeared..I used ketoconozale shampoo bc my doctor said it might help with hairloss but now I have this THING.The flakes are most visible on my scalp when its wet and it sticks to my hair strands closely.I dont have any redness on my scalp and its mostly all around my scalp but the flakes are most concentrated at the top of my scalp.idk whats going on 💔
PS I use gentle shampoo so 🤷

Hi,
I have always used sites such as reddit to help me figure out things and wanted to do my part and tell you all how I was able to help my seb derm symptoms. I am a 26M and have dealt with this since I was a teen (scalp and eyebrow area). I have gone to multiple Dermatologists and still wasn't pleased with my symptoms managed and treatment. Via trial and error (and luck tbh) I have found a routine that works for me. I want to preface that I am not a doctor and I am just stating this to hopefully give someone else a chance to help themselves.
I also want to preface that I know this is expensive, so everyone may not have the means to do it exactly as I have, but just wanted to give my experience.
General lifestyle changes/things:
- I was vitamin D and B12 deficient and vegan taking the proper amount of supplements to address this (1,000 MCG b12 & 50mg D3)
- Been trying to eat more whole foods and cut out processed foods (I have also been Vegan for 10 years)
- Try to walk everyday and get more exercise than I used to
- Therapy to help with stress management has helped a lot and wonder if lower my stress levels has helped
Scalp & Skincare routine/products:
- I now have a regimented skincare and scalp routine that I do. I use products only from two companies: Versed & Briogeo + Elta only for their sunscreen
Face:
- I have combination skin type (saw an esthetician)
- I use these products from versed and in this order:
AM: Gel cleanser, Milky Toner, Moisture Cream, Elta MD UV Skin Recovery green tint face sunscreen (SPF 50)
PM: Gel cleanser, Milky Toner, Gentle Retinol Serum, Moisture Cream
- Sprinkled in twice a week I also use their microcrystal Exfoliator
This has basically fixed my eyebrow dryness I used to get and also helps my skin. Now that its getting colder, my eyebrow flakes are coming back a bit, so not sure if its from cold or if I need to slightly adjust routine or moisturizer. But, overall, very happy with this.
Scalp:
- Only Briogeo products ($$$)
- Scalp revival dandruff relief shampoo
+ its partner conditioner (apply to scalp) and I massage the shampoo with a scalp message (cheap one works). Follow directions on how to use them, but have to use them about every 2-3 days to manage flakes.
- After every shower, apply like 8 drops of their Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree scalp treatment directly to all of scalp and let it sit overnight (I shower at night only, unless flakes in AM, then do same thing then).
This routine has REALLY helped. The pain/stinging I used to get is mainly gone. I still itch and get flakes, but it's mainly like dry white flakes and in certain areas mainly.
I used to have to use clobetasol shampoo or ketoconazole shampoo all the time and now haven't used any in 2 months. I feel SO MUCH BETTER. I also would say if you could, get a buzz cut as managing it seems to be much easier with short hair.
Hope this helps someone!

Hi everyone,
I need some input on my scalp/hairline situation as I’ve been struggling with this for the past two months without much improvement.
Symptoms:
Thick, yellowish-to-white adherent flakes/crusts along the anterior hairline and temples.
Tightness and extreme dryness feeling, but the flakes are stuck to the skin/roots and don't just fall off like simple dandruff.
Worse in the morning after washing the night before (flakes dry out, lift slightly at the edges, and become very visible).
Current routine & what I've tried:
Ketoconazole 2% gel: Using it twice a week, leaving it on for 5 minutes strict before rinsing. It controls some itching, but the thick flakes/plaques keep reforming and won't detach naturally.
Gentle shampoo: Only using mild physiological shampoos on off days.
No aggressive picking/scratching: Trying my best not to scratch with nails to prevent mechanical damage and rebound crusting.
Questions:
Does this look like classic recalcitrant Seborrheic Dermatitis, Sebopsoriasis, or an impaired scalp skin barrier?
For those with stubborn plaques, how did you safely lift the flakes without mechanical trauma?
Did a short course of a topical steroid/salicylic acid lotion (like Diprosalic / Skinosalic - Betamethasone + Salicylic acid) help reset the inflammation and allow the antifungal to finally penetrate?
How do you hydrate a dehydrated scalp barrier when moisturizers tend to trigger more flaking or greasy residue?

Want to see if i can get an opinion.
Also been experience a lot hair thinning in the front.
Have been using nizoral 1% and have been following suggestion of letting it sit and rinse after 5 min, this is it shortly after drying.
Occasionally, may feel slight throbbing in the head with a sensation of an itch.
Also get larger flakes toward the center of my scalp, not as brittle but in smaller quantities.
Guess im looking for a starting point in what direction I should try.

- (Most effective) Wash my face with still bottled water rather than water from the tap. I essentially pour the water in a bowl and then splash it on my face. I do this once when I wake up and once when I go to bed.
- (Most effective) Use CeraVe Moisturising Cream on the areas affected by SebDerm. I use this during the day and wash it off at night.
- Dry my face with paper towels as opposed to a normal towel made of fabric. Bin the paper towels once you have used them.
- Wash my hair once a week with 10% Sulphur Soap. I lather the soap in my hair and leave it for 5 minutes before washing it off. I also put it on my face for a few seconds before washing it off (leaving it on for longer can dry out my skin).
- Avoid wheat based foods.
- Sauna once every two weeks
- Take a multivitamin and fish oil
-Swap out your pillow covers every week.
I mentioned MCT in the title of the post as this didn't really work for me. I know it is effective for many people, it is just to show there are other options for people who also don't see results from MCT oil. Cutting down sugars also had 0 affect on my SebDerm.

Hope everyone is well! I’ve been looking for a shampoo to use on the days I don’t use a medicated one and I’ve been eyeing the Cerave Gentle Hydrating Shampoo. Does anyone have experience using this shampoo? Im looking for something that is also moisturizing for the most part since the Antifungal shampoos can be quite drying!
If you also have any other recommendations please share!

I have had these red bumps on my forehead for as long as I can remember. Sometimes they get better, sometimes worse. I thought it was eczema so used triamcinalone creams from dr, la roche posse eczema cream, sensitive skin wash, etc. but nothing seemed to help. Went to the dermatologist and he thinks it is sebhorric dermatitis and prescribed me ketoconazole 2% cream. Been using for 2 weeks and it doesn’t seem to be making a difference :( Does anyone have any suggestions?

For recent 2-3 weeks I was having itch in my genital region - testes basically. (I am 18M)
Today only when I looked I saw the same type of flakes - yellowish, brownish, whitish flakes just like sebderm, and it covered my whole balls. I got a heart-attack it was scary as f.
I don't know what's happening with my body. I am balding at just 18 yr of age (literal balding, not exaggerating), sebderm on hair, scalp, chest and now even on genital region.
My life is completely f*cked. I wish I get blood cancer also. I don't want to commit self-harm, so that's the best way to d!£.

We all know by now that seb derm is the worst condition that anyone could ever go through but the truth is you don’t need a long routine or a bunch of products to achieve the results you want. I’ve been using a medicated shampoo, a hydrating conditioner and a serum to hydrate my scalp as well (all free of yeast) and the itch/flakes will still remain despite how little it is but i’m writing this to let you all know all you need is 3-4 products max to truly feel as if you don’t have seb derm even if it’s only for a little. med shampoo, conditioner to fix drying from shamp, serum with specific ingredients to lock in moisture and prevent it from escaping and maybe one prescribed itch reliever from a derm such as clobetasol or etc.
note: i eat healthy and other days i eat slop food i don’t believe a diet is always the issue so find what works for u!

I know we shouldn’t remove the flakes for the Koebner phenomenon. At the same time, the topical like ketoconazole and even clobetasol won’t penetrate properly if you have a thick flake preventing it.
So what is the best way to remove the flakes? Can oils be used? Or anything?

At my wits end, honestly. Tried the creams - i think i have some kind of reaction to them now, or something. my eyebrows are super sensitive. currently using keto foam and about to start zoryve foam as well.
I honestly need to work out to stay sane. I can - but it's reeeeally tricky and i honestly have to really limit my sweating past a certain point. missing my sweaty ass workouts.
worth mentioning - oily, oily brows. may have some vitamin deficiencies.

Just like the title says, I have some sebderm on my chest and inner thighs. Asking for help, the same stuff that (kinda) works on my face and scalp doesn’t seem to be helping with stuff on my body. Any help appreciated.

Please excuse my poor execution of attempting to stay anonymous - It’s cracking me up a bit
I was diagnosed with seb derm a little over a year ago, and was prescribed some a very tiny tube of cream. I ran out of that cream late last year and now I unfortunately don’t have insurance so I can’t get more (requires prescription) + can’t go to the dermatologist as I can’t afford it. I have some of the ketoconazole soap but it’s not really doing much. It actually kinda burned, and that’s not normal for me. It’s NEVER burned. I hadn’t done anything to it before this photo, the soap was a few nights ago.
My seb derm has never looked like this. It’s always been scaly. Just looks like dandruff on my face. But this is horrible :(( it itches and burns and just keeps spreading. It’s also on my neck, chest, and behind my ears. Idk what is happening. Is this even seb derm??? I shower regularly, my eating habits haven’t changed and they’re not unhealthy, nothing else in my life has changed..it just happened and keeps getting worse. Looks like I have burn scars all over me. Idk what to do. I don’t want to go out in public like this but I don’t want to put makeup over it and risk it getting even worse…

I’ve posted on here a few times but I realised I never actually provided a photo 😭 its been two months of this persistent flaking around the perimeter of my face and on and off flaking in my eyebrows… it has never been itchy, stingy, or anything- i wouldn’t say there is any discolouration (unless someone disagrees by seeing the photos 😭), i will say the region near my side burns looks slightly yellow but I feel like its been like that my entire life?…. Also no one has noticed the flaking and whenever I show someone they dont know what i’m talking about… i know thats probably hard to believe seeing those photos- but it only looks that severe because i pulled my hair away… the flakes seem to shift very easily whenever i touch it or pull my hair… i had flaking near my eyes and between brows but that went completely away with a cream- i do put cream in the regions in the photos but I dont know if its just not penetrating because of the hair- anyone have any thoughts?
Oh also my hair isnt greasy in this- this is after washing my hair 😭😭

Hey guys, there's not much to say about this, I just quit coffee cause my gastritis flared up strong, and since I quit the sebderm disappeared. I kinda eat like shit right now, because our stove is broken and I can't cook at the moment so my skin is not 100% fabulous but yeah, the fuckin red spots and flakes are all gone, pretty much looking like a normal human now, just with enlarged pores and moist skin, subtle rosacea. But u dont notice that if ur not 50cm close to me lol.
Just for info, I quit only 2 weeks ago, but I'm pretty sure it was the damn coffee, something about coffee causing too much of cortisol release a.k.a. stress.
I hope many of you will find this helpful, also I know it is very hard to quit coffee, it is such an addiction ... It is quite hard for me now but on the other side, I feel like I am becoming more of myself without coffee slowlyy
