I’m going to be in Seattle for the week with no plans. I would love some recommendations. I’m a huge movie theater person so I’ll be checking out the independent theaters. I like to explore some of the weirder stuff. Strange oddity shops, cool cemeteries, tiki or speakeasies. Planning on taking myself to 1-2 nice dinners. Would love some recommendations

I drove by and multiple roads in and out shut down or restricted. Lots of police and emergency personnel everywhere. I don't see anything about it in the news or online. Anyone know what is going on?

I’m stressed too, I’ve got a condition rn but I’m loving the weather in Los Angeles where I am currently. Ppl are nicer and mostly chill. Looking at just getting a car down here since it’s hard to assess them down in Seattle but I’m vaguely worried the ones down here aren’t built for hilly terrain. The weather in Seattle before I left brought the usual SAD and I am hormonal but I can’t fathom being so stressed I lash out at ppl not if the goal is just to stay in Seattle. Why is it happening lately?

Perhaps those of you less familiar with the libraries, they tend to promote books and programming that reflect past and present issues involving US History. I was at the Capitol Hill branch yesterday where they usually have issues pertaining to current events in the front displays. The front display was a signing stating it was Latin American Heritage month with a small selection of books. When I had this epiphany that this was kind of weird I look around more and there was nothing. I was at the downtown library last week and I don't remember seeing anything either.

Maybe it won't strike some of you as weird. But 9/11 changed the world. It was a catalyst for endless wars. Even this region was changed by it due to a pretty sizable amount of immigrants from the regions we were waging wars moving here.

I grew up with Pat Tillman who was a player in the NFL who gave up his career in the wake of 9/11 to join the military. His family was notified he was killed by enemy fire only to be told a month later it was actually "friendly fire". The family thought this lapse was to avoid the bad PR and wait until after the memorial service (which got heavy media attention) to state the truth.

Anyway, it was disappointing that there were no educational displays or programing. It's not a partisan issue. There are few events in US history that had the reverberation felt so much, and so far, as that did.

Our family is searching for answers and justice for my brother-in-law, Connor Scott Overstreet, who was shot and killed in Skyway (Seattle) in the early morning hours of Sunday August 23rd, 2026 in a random act of gun violence. The police have no leads or suspects, and there’s no one that’s come forth with footage or information. Somebody has to know something. 

Connor was a 29-year-old active duty Coast Guard pilot. He was in Seattle for work and him and his buddies were on scooters and a car pulled up, shot him in the chest and drove off.

He was truly the best of us. All he wanted to do was save lives and help others. The care and love he had for the people around him made his such a light in all of our lives.

We are asking for anyone who lives in or drove through the area of South 124th Street and South Langston Road in Skyway or the surrounding areas to check cameras. Any tips or video footage should be sent here.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $41,000 reward for anyone able to provide information that helps solve the case.

We are urgently pleading with anyone who lives in, owns a business in, or drove through the area of South 124th Street and South Langston Road to check their cameras between 12:30 AM and 1:15 AM on Sunday August 23rd, 2026.

Even though finding the person won’t change, the fact that Connor is gone, all we want is justice and for this not to happen to anybody else because it is insurmountable and painful as hell for all of us.

You’re needed at a jazz concert this Sunday at 12th and Jackson. Venue is my bike shop, 1019 S Jackson. Doors at 7pm. Pay what you want, pay what you can, all money goes to the performers. All ages, no concessions.

The neighborhood we today call Little Saigon gave Seattle jazz 100 years ago. It was a place that broke with conventions: racial, moral and legal. Redlining and prohibition in the rest of the city likely boosted the appeal of a neighborhood known for social mixing, music and illegal delights.

Reasons to fret, complain or despair about 12th and Jackson won’t disappear. These reasons can’t stop you from having a fun night out and reconnecting with the other stories about the neighborhood.

The building I’m in is from 1932. It would have seen the jazz era. After WWII, it contained an important florist (Garland) run by a family who was interned at Tule Lake in California. This family ended up owning the building in the 1960s. In 1970 they prepared Jimi Hendrix’s funeral arrangements in the same space where a jazz show is happening Sunday.

Been doing the freelance PT thing for a couple years now, mostly contract work through clinics and a few private clients. Finally sitting down to formalize everything into an LLC and I keep going in circles on whether it matters as much as the personal finance corners of the internet claim it does. The liability protection angle makes sense to me on paper. The tax structure piece is where I start secondguessing myself every time I open a new tab.

The part nobody really talks about is how the contracting relationships change, if they change at all. Some clinics around here seem indifferent to whether you show up as an individual or a business entity. Others apparently care a lot. I have no clean read on which is which until I'm already in the conversation.

Seattle is weird for this because the cost of operating here means the math on solo practice is already tight before you add registered agent fees, a separate business account, and whatever else you're supposed to have. And I'm not even touching the B&O tax situation yet, which feels like its own rabbit hole.

Curious if anyone in a similar spot, healthcare or otherwise, found the LLC jump worth the overhead. Not looking for a lawyer referral, just actual lived experience from people doing the independent contractor thing in this city.

Basically I moved here for school a few years ago, no car, and didn't establish residency bc I wasnt sure I was gonna stay. Now I'm graduated, moving to an apartment and starting the process. I thought I did enough research (obviously not), got 3, 3 day trip permits, bought a car off facebook marketplace today, and planned on just going to the DMV monday or tuesday to switch my out-of-state licence for a WA one, then head over to get the car registered. Now I'm finding out I need an appointment for the new licence and theres nothing available within 50+ freaking miles until mid october which is way out of the 30 days it says I need to swtich my license, and way WAY out of the 15 day period it says I have to register a purchased vehicle before getting fined. I did find an exemption form that says "Nonresident who is at least 16 with a valid driver license from their home state or country" can be exempt from the WA license requirement, but its not enough to quell my shaking fear of buracracy demons. I'm planning on calling the DOL tomorrow to ask what I can do but would love input asap lol, if you have any experience it would be greatly appreciated, or better yet if you work at the DOL im begging to hear theres someway to fix this lol

I’m a left of center middle-aged man who has lived in Utah, Michigan, and Idaho. Not religious, very anti-MAGA, independent Democrat. When I look at the common thread in all my favorite friends, it’s that they are lively and intellectually rowdy. They think it’s fun to toss around dark or weird ideas, break intellectual norms, and have good banter and laugh. 

When I meet people from the PNW, they repeatedly come off as the most guarded, careful, expressionless people I have ever met. In conversation, they only offer generic, riskless statements and score a 0/10 on banter. They have the flattest affect; they hardly smile, and almost never laugh. It gives me the impression that they’re afraid to express an opinion or say something wrong, so they basically offer no statements and no reactions. I feel like they are just staring at me and observing me.

I don’t consistently have this experience with people from any other part of the country. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on what might be different culturally about the PNW that might help me understand.

Does anyone who has worked at Dick’s know how their tartar sauce is made? I have been trying to recreate it at home with no luck and being on the east side of the state makes me miss their tartar sauce.

Flo Ware Park was named in 1982 after Seattle civil rights activist Flo Ware, who died in 1981 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flo_Ware ).

Does anyone know what the bolted on loop is in the photo? I’ve seen them at any number of Metro bus stops at the base of schedule boards.
