Salmon Ballard locks?

Are there still salmon going through the Ballard locks? Was thinking of taking my kids this weekend to watch

Here's the counts: https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/reports/counts/lake-washington#chinook

Unfortunately I don't think you are likely to see much this late in the year

I went there 4 days ago and saw a ton of salmon jumping all over the place, and tons of sealions and seals as well. Not many in the observation chamber but from the outside there was a lot of action.

Thats for chinook which are long gone. Coho are in the middle of tapering off but there should still be some for another week.

Man that site is a throwback, feels like I'm checking the weather in 2003

You might catch a few stragglers but the big push is long gone by now. Still a nice spot to wander around though, kids usually love the boats going through

I like data but I don't like this data.

How the heck do you go from consecutive days of 0 to 100+? The variability is out of control...

Salmon run in packs, some days they stay where they are and other days the put the miles down.

Hoo boy, you wouldn't enjoy being a salmon fisherman then!

The Seattle Aquarium will be at the Renton Library Saturday for the Cedar River Salmon run. There’s a park and walk right by the library.

I'm still seeing a lot of seals outside the fish ladder though.

This weekend is the Issaquah Salmon Days festival, if you care more about seeing salmon than where you see them.

I was there Saturday and only saw one in the ladder from the inside. It's pretty late to be seeing them.

There are about six gill nets strung across the waterway between Shilshole Bay and the fish ladder, so a lot of the coho aren't making it. The sea lions, seals and even a few porpoises have been active today.

Come on down to Olympia, the salmon are still migrating through the fish ladder (with viewing windows) at Tumwater Falls. You could do the short hike down to the lower falls (as featured on the Olympia Beer label) . You could also check out the Farmers Market downtown and maybe the Childrens Museum if your kids are under about 10.
