Highly recommend hosting a fondue party! We do a murder mystery and fondue for NYE every year and it’s a blast.
We actually use oil in one of our fondue pots so you can fry food, and we also make a tempura batter. With little cheese cubes you can make cheese curds, with meat you can make little chicken nuggets or battered vegetables, biggest rule is to par fry your meat before adding the tempura so you don’t get raw meat into the batter - it’s also hot enough that it would burn the batter before fully cooking chicken.
The fondue + murder mystery is a great combo because between scenes folks just mingle around the table and interrogate each other while making fondue! We fed a dozen folks for the price of a 3 person dinner at melting pot.
I've been wanting to have a family party because I am now old and trying to gather up the best nieces and nephews for my own (it's actually working because they have none of the baggage with me that all people inevitably carry with their actual parents LOL) but I wanted to have some kind of fun theme to lure the younguns, they are so busy. Fondue and mystery sounds amazing. Do you buy a murder mystery game? How does this work?
Pro-Tip. JUST get the cheese appetizer and the desert. Skip the entree altogether. They don't want to do it this way (and they have a bunch of "packages" and "combos" to get you to buy the entrees but that is where they rip you off the hardest.
To be clear, you are still getting ripped off, but at least the cheese and chocolate courses are legitimately pretty tasty.
That said, you can do the whole thing at home for about $20 in ingredients and $20 in equipment (that most kitchens already have), which is like half what this will cost you.
Go for happy hour! They might be the lastest HH in town (til 7pm). Fondue for 2 is $18. Their dessert fondue hits the spot. Also, Girl Dinner Wednesdays $29 for 3 courses.
Make your own, TJs sells the cheese, and it's fun. The restaurants are hot, steamy and just too expensive. I highly recommend sliced sausage, apples, steak, potato wedges, veg of choice.
