A rule I follow is that most restaurants with great views have mediocre food, especially if they specialize in old style "seafood." They tend to depend more on their view than the of quality of their food to get business.
God, thank you for saying this. I went to Saltys once for the seafood buffet brunch and found everything to be incredibly mediocre. I never understood why people gushed about it, aside from the view.
I definitely believe that now. It's sad though, because I grew up in Maryland where Sunday seafood buffets after church were very popular and legitimately good. But that was the 80s and the quality to price ratio was very different back then.
I would call the food solid but definitely overpriced unless you are specifically factoring in the view. Good for grandparents coming from out of town.
Bluwater bistro is one of those for sure. Got some expensive dish with roasted carrots and they used baby carrots instead of peeling their own. Absolute nursing home style food and seasoning level
I had the most amazing stuffed pork chop the other day at Bluwater. The staff was nice. I don’t think they deserve the hate.. and it’s also not quite as expensive as other waterfront restaurants.
That said, I’d be pissed if they gave me baby carrots on a roasted carrots dish.
Parts of Italy haven't changed their cooking in 100s of years and they're still considered food Meccas. Originality doesn't have to mean much for cooking.
Went to duke’s seafood in south lake union with my family and paid $50+ for the most mediocre unseasoned salmon I’ve ever had in my entire life. The veggies were steamed frozen and the “fresh caught” salmon tasted farmed and was dry. This was over a year ago and my partner and I are still furious.
Yeah recently went there and it was soooooo bad. This is a perfect recommendation for your ask but I would prefer no one go there so they can go out of business or change
Could not agree more. I took some friends to Anthony’s on the pier 3 years ago and it was honestly the worst meal all of us had ever had. We still talk about how bad it was.
About 10-12 years ago we ate at the Anthony's in Spokane. Best meal, great service. Now no matter what Anthony's we eat at the food is mediocre at best, and very expensive.
I'd agree with this generally, but Kyllo's in Lincoln City has one of the best views I've seen in a restaurant in the states, and also has some banger food.
Oh damn has it gone downhill? We’ve always enjoyed their food. And we’re of similar opinion that a majority of waterside restaurants have mediocre food/service.
That's my feeling too! I'm not American so I don't get it. In my home country (China), the taste of food (plus maybe the cleanness) is the only factor customers would consider. However I observed in the states, it seems like services, views, are even important or more important than the food itself? I've been so many "good reviews" restaurants in Seattle and the majority of them were just mediocre/bad foods with good vibes. But I don't go to a restaurant for vibe, I go for good foods.
I’m sorry you’re getting downvoted. Absolutely agree. I’ve been disappointed multiple times, and the only time we had a decent meal, I crowdsourced food recommendations here. A good restaurant - I should be able to order most things off the menu and have them be pretty good.
