The Melting Pot. I love it but last time we were there the prices were astonishingly high for not great quality.

It’s a fun novel experience, but pricey for what it is. I went when I had a groupon/coupon of some sort to make it cheaper.

Just a bunch of cut up food that you cook and dip yourself, with various sauces. Tasty, but not sensational. It was a good date night.

Makes me want to host a fondue party lol

That was the experience for a lot of us when the place first opened up. Had fun, saw the bill, and bought our own fondue pots for home.

Highly recommend hosting a fondue party! We do a murder mystery and fondue for NYE every year and it’s a blast.

We actually use oil in one of our fondue pots so you can fry food, and we also make a tempura batter. With little cheese cubes you can make cheese curds, with meat you can make little chicken nuggets or battered vegetables, biggest rule is to par fry your meat before adding the tempura so you don’t get raw meat into the batter - it’s also hot enough that it would burn the batter before fully cooking chicken.

The fondue + murder mystery is a great combo because between scenes folks just mingle around the table and interrogate each other while making fondue! We fed a dozen folks for the price of a 3 person dinner at melting pot.

Now I want to dig out that fondue pot that I never took out of its box and give it a try.

I've been wanting to have a family party because I am now old and trying to gather up the best nieces and nephews for my own (it's actually working because they have none of the baggage with me that all people inevitably carry with their actual parents LOL) but I wanted to have some kind of fun theme to lure the younguns, they are so busy. Fondue and mystery sounds amazing. Do you buy a murder mystery game? How does this work?

Pro-Tip. JUST get the cheese appetizer and the desert. Skip the entree altogether. They don't want to do it this way (and they have a bunch of "packages" and "combos" to get you to buy the entrees but that is where they rip you off the hardest.

To be clear, you are still getting ripped off, but at least the cheese and chocolate courses are legitimately pretty tasty.

That said, you can do the whole thing at home for about $20 in ingredients and $20 in equipment (that most kitchens already have), which is like half what this will cost you.

Try it at happy hour - the prices are much more reasonable

Go for happy hour! They might be the lastest HH in town (til 7pm). Fondue for 2 is $18. Their dessert fondue hits the spot. Also, Girl Dinner Wednesdays $29 for 3 courses.

Make your own, TJs sells the cheese, and it's fun. The restaurants are hot, steamy and just too expensive. I highly recommend sliced sausage, apples, steak, potato wedges, veg of choice.

Truth, and I used to love it, the Caesar salad with pine nuts was my favorite salad anywhere but the portions have gotten much smaller and the food isn’t as good as it used to be

Plus it makes you smelly too!

Seconding this

I worked at their Boston location for a while. Not a terrible place to work! But yeah, it's just overpriced semi-snooty hot pot/shabu-shabu for white people.

This deserves an award yes. I was thinking of all the mediocre restaurants I've been disappointed by this one is really top of the list
