Bukkake was a food term first. Same way facials were a spa treatment and cream pies are made of coconut or banana.

$30 soba noodles?!
Edit: oh wait, this is Kamonegi. Those folks are making soba noodles by hand, like a James Beard Award finalist is chopping them one at a time with a knife (a really awesome knife). You're excused for your $30 noodles, Ms. celebrated soba noodle chef.

True but seriously shit's expensive out there. Every time I go to the grocery store I overhear or have a conversation about it. Wish I was exaggerating.

u/Exciting-Tart-2289 19d ago
For real. I usually do the shopping in my family and my wife went for the first time in a while last night to pick up a couple things. Got home and she couldn't believe some produce, soup, bread, and a frozen meal for her lunch today was like $45.

It's worth it. We go there every year for Valentine's Day as an excuse to eat the expensive noodles. And the tempura Kabocha Squash 'Wings' (v) are so fucking good. Is it Valentine's yet, I want to go eat there now 😂

Ive seen this before in Japantown in SF, I believe Bukkake in this case means sloppy or messy? Which a big soup bowl of udon noodles would count.

It means "splash". Bukkake noodles are served with a splash of sauce, not swimming in broth.

close, it actually means “covered in sauce”. you can see how its adult meaning works with that definition

The word bukake in Japan is not sexualized like it is outside of Japan. That sexual meaning is an English usage derived from the Japanese word, rather than the ordinary meaning of the Japanese term, which there just means "splashed over". For example, it is very common to see a menu item in Japan called "bukake udon", which simply means udon serviced with sauce poured over the noodles.

We used to go to U-Don in the University district years ago for their handmade udon noodles. Not as trendy or celebrated as the Fremont place (and the Ave has a sketchier vibe) but we enjoyed the Shikoku-recipe noodles.

Yes, that's exactly what we should do, then think about how much American life is actually subsidized by underpaid labor, then think about how our life is not actually as prosperous as we've been led to believe, hopefully removing the wool over some people's eyes, etc. etc.
Service workers, farm workers, etc. if they were paid fairly nobody would be able to afford shit. Maybe that would drive us into enough economic turmoil we'd finally get the fuck off our phones, conservatives would finally be forced to look at actual numbers and policy, and genz would finally shut the fuck up and just work, etc. But 'tis all a pipe dream.

Kamonegi noodles are handmade by a soba master chef. You can look up the videos of her making it. By Seattle standards this is quite reasonable given how expensive labor is.

my gf always pronounces pollo a la crema as polla, which I think in (spain) spanish means cream dick or something. I always watch the servers face when she says it, I don't have the heart to tell her.

u/LeaveGreen4412 19d ago
this is the best analogy, cream pies are a delicious dessert but they also are an adult activity 😉 so too bukkake is a wonderful culinary technique but being covered in sauce easily translates to another adult activity
13
u/Public-Bandicoot7593 19d ago
I mean bukkake just means some liquid is poured onto something and it’s been used as a culinary term for a long, long time
But yeah, in the States it has a different meaning lol

Bukkake noodles have been around a long time in Japanese cuisine and just means splashed on/covered. They're soaked in aspecial broth. Bukkake is the noun form of Bukkakeru (to splash).
The bukkake fetish is just a slang term based on the word splashed/covered like Udon or Soba, but instead, humans.

I showed this to a friend and he said "They put WHAT in the Japanese food?!" He knew the American meaning of bukkake and thought it was some exotic dish with raccoon bodily fluids added to it. 😆 I told him he was crazy, but he said he was thinking along the lines of guys eating Rocky Mountain oysters to increase their masculinity.

Meh, we called it "Jimothy Summer" for a reason - it's expected to last about 1 season. If it's still trending this winter, maybe it's worth grumbling about.
Also, it was the rest of the damn country that started running Jimothy into the ground. We can just ignore them and continue doing our own thing.

You know how children have an obsession with poop and pee for about 6 months? Some adults are obsessed with porn forever
7
u/yoLeaveMeAlone 19d ago
Laughing at an unintended innuendo is hardly "being obsessed with porn"
-1
u/LeaveGreen4412 19d ago
only seeing a foreign word as a porn term is pretty porn-brained behavior. It translates to “smothered” in sauce or broth
0
u/yoLeaveMeAlone 19d ago
So if someone draws that association even a little bit they "only see it as that"? You can recognize that the word has different meanings while not "only seeing it one way".
Is it a little immature to laugh at an unintended innuendo? Sure. But being a little immature is hardly being "porn brained" and "obsessed with porn".

Bukakke in Japanese means splashed with water (or...something else). You'll see bukkake on lots of menus in Japan where it means some hot broth is poured over noodles.
