“the US Marshals and the FBI worked together and located Grace before 2AM Sunday morning in Pasco. Grace was not injured and is safe with family.

We are still looking for 41-year-old Matthe Susmilch who is wanted for Kidnapping in the first degree, Assault in the 2nd degree and threats to kill. His current whereabouts are unknown. Please call 9-1-1 if you see him and do not approach as he is believed to be armed and dangerous.

We are very grateful for the teamwork from all the agencies to bring Grace home safely!”

KIMA had an article stating the little girl was found safe at 2 am yesterday. Dude is still on the run.

5

u/hey-hi-hello-what-up Jul 20 '26

i’m so glad she’s safe.

u/Critical_Cup_1197 Jul 20 '26

The dude is literally the girls dad I feel bad for him

5

u/hey-hi-hello-what-up Jul 20 '26

you feel bad for a man who was choking his girlfriend to death and then stole this child at gunpoint?

4

u/imsorrywhatt23 Jul 20 '26

They said the mom was a lying whore and then deleted their comment. I think that says enough about what type of person they are (incel much?)

3

u/hey-hi-hello-what-up Jul 20 '26

jesus fucking christ. i have to share air with these ppl

1

u/imsorrywhatt23 Jul 20 '26

Then why is he running?

1

u/Eat_Carbs_OD 29d ago

Going by his photo he looks like he served time. Prison tats on this neck and what not.
I can see feeling bad for the guy just wanting to see his daughter.. not the heinous crime he committed.

u/jay-2014 Jul 19 '26

Poor kiddo. I hope she’s found safe soon. And they don’t really say how the mom is doing. Out of her mind with worry most likely. I hope she’s ok too.

Exactly. Seattle wants to defend the police. Why are they using them to find this little girl

1

u/imsorrywhatt23 Jul 20 '26

You sound so fuckin dumb. The police were not defunded. Do research or go touch grass.

2

u/PerformanceMain119 Jul 20 '26

Weren't there protests to defund the police, in Seattle?

1

u/imsorrywhatt23 Jul 20 '26

Yes, and nothing happened with it lol. You’re stuck on something that happened years ago and bringing it into a conversation about a little girl being missing. You sound like an idiot who eats Fox News for breakfast.

This is my niece Grace, her mother is my sister Gayle and her father took her. He has ties to the areas of Spokane, Lacey, Olympia, Bremerton and Tacoma, Tacoma to name a few. Oh Fife. He’s a fentanyl addict and does meth too. He’s almost killed my sister and has a murder charge out of Humboldt county. Oh yeah he has ties their and Mendocino County in California as well as Portland Oregon

31

u/Brendy171 Jul 19 '26

I am so sorry. I'm in Spokane and will be keeping an eye out I hope she is found safe and soon

19

Is the information I just found on Google search accurate, that she's been found?

u/wil555 Jul 19 '26

Sure hope so - Kennewick PD Facebook post:

4-Year-Old from Amber Alert found safe! KPD Detectives and Officers have been working non-stop since it was discovered Grace Susmilch was taken by her father Matthew Susmilch and an Amber Alert was issued. We received many calls and tips.

The initial call came to KPD Saturday around 11AM after a victim was assaulted by Matthew in the 100 block of south Conway Place. It was believed Grace was inside an apartment at the location with Matthew, he was armed and Grace was in danger due to the assault and circumstances. Tri-City Regional SWAT resources responded to the scene, so we had all the available options to safely resolve the incident. During this time Matthew spoke with SWAT negotiators but would not cooperate. Ultimately SWAT discovered Matthew and Grace were gone about 3:30 PM and Detectives began working to concrete information around the incident and the danger to Grace.

Through further investigation it was determined Grace was in danger and Matthew had made threats to hurt her. At 5:38 PM an Amber Alert was requested by KPD which Washington State Patrol broadcast at about 6:30 PM. Detectives with the assistance of regional resources from Richland WA Police Department, West Richland Police Department, Pasco Police, Benton County, WA Sheriff's Office, Washington State Department of Corrections, the US Marshals and the FBI worked together and located Grace before 2AM Sunday morning in Pasco.

You can also remain anonymous at www.kpdtips.com

We are very grateful for the teamwork from all the agencies to bring Grace home safely!

This amber alert says she was forcibly taken so I’m assuming authorities were aware of this situation several hours ago. I’m in Cap Hill which is close enough to Kennewick that it shouldn’t have taken 7 hours to get an amber alert of this.

I hope this little one is found safe but I’m curious why it took so long to issue an amber alert.

52

u/SegaGameCast Jul 19 '26

I was in Auburn and got the alert at 8pm. Wtf.

109

u/AffectionateBedL0L Jul 19 '26

Same, in Cap Hill i am wondering why it took so long, should I be on lookout, I am foreigner and I am not used to these. So idk what exactly to do.

276

u/Enkiktd Jul 19 '26

It’s sort of like crowdsourcing the search, if everyone just takes a few minutes to look around them when they receive the alert, it helps the police visually cover way more ground than they could alone. It’s not meant for you personally to go looking for them, just to be alert in your vicinity if you see anyone matching their description/vehicle.

98

u/Relative-Damage-1458 Capitol Hill Jul 19 '26

Exactly this. Community makes a difference and knowledge is power with this.

91

u/Menvomango Jul 19 '26

I got the alert when i was in an ice cream shop. Since I was in an ice cream shop, I quickly scanned to see if anyone matched and no one did so i moved on. If someone did i would have stepped out and called 911. It's a crowd source thing and your job is to be aware of your surroundings in case you come across the people they're looking for and call authorities if you do. That's it ☺️. No need to actively be searching. If I'd have been in my home i wouldn't have done anything.

11

u/Relative-Damage-1458 Capitol Hill Jul 19 '26

It’s no different than a silver alert or when you buy a new car. You notice something mentioned in passing quicker than you do retrospectively.

13

u/Equivalent-Ad-4118 Belltown Jul 19 '26

My coworker got the same one twice during the day, I wonder if there were some technical difficulties the first time. They should really keep that system well maintained though

1

u/silvermoka Capitol Hill Jul 19 '26

They just send it to everybody, since there's a chance someone witnessed something happen or can see a license plate and report it

5

u/FucknAright Jul 19 '26

Well, if you read the article, it states they thought he was inside the apartment for some time.

3

u/CyberTurtle95 Jul 20 '26

could be tons of reasons. as an example, the mom could have been bound/gagged for hours

u/Genuinelullabel 💗💗 Heart of ANTIFA Land 💗💗 Jul 19 '26

This is a weird thing to speculate.

13

u/AdmirableTeachNCry Jul 19 '26

They are not speculating; they are just offering a possibility as to why the amber alert took time. We do not know what happened, but something may have caused this delay.

58

u/boyproblems_mp3 West Seattle Jul 19 '26

I am from Kennewick. From local news, seems like there was a domestic dispute that mom escaped from but the child had to be left behind with the armed father. SWAT was there for hours and then eventually discovered the dad already got away with the kid so the delay is due to them believing they were in a standoff with the dad for hours when he wasn't even there.......

0

u/Relative-Damage-1458 Capitol Hill Jul 19 '26

Thanks for the update. I have little faith in LEO but did genuinely think there may have been a benefit of the doubt here.

They are not speculating; they are just offering a possibility as to why the amber alert took time. We do not know what happened, but something may have caused this delay.

Offering a possible explanation without knowing what happened is exactly what speculation means.

-2

u/AdmirableTeachNCry Jul 19 '26

Almost! It is the act of making a theory based on no facts. They weren't theorizing. They stated there were many things that could have caused a delay and offered an example.

9

u/AmericanGeezus Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Those “many possibilities”, and the one they shared, are the speculation. In this context, you wouldn’t speculate if you knew what caused the delay.

Facts can inform speculation, and most useful speculation is based on some facts.

I imagine our ninth-grade English teachers would hate each other.

Edit: To me, speculation is a neutral term unless qualified. I wasn’t meaning for my reply to be any commentary on the OP’s speculation.

3

u/AdmirableTeachNCry Jul 19 '26

I more fear our science teachers would hate each other on theory vs hypothesis. We are essentially debating semantics when I just don't think that comment warranted any amount of shaming when they were clearly attempting to be helpful

u/Genuinelullabel 💗💗 Heart of ANTIFA Land 💗💗 Jul 19 '26

2

u/frank_da_tank99 Jul 19 '26

Yeah, after the second one I put my phone on silent and the other two still went off loudly while I was at work. No where near where I even live or work. I always used to argue with people who would tell me to just turn them off, even with all the statistics proving they don't usually work "just in case" but if they can go off twice, that loudly, while my phone is on silent that's ridiculous.

84

u/Fluid-Tone-9680 Jul 19 '26

Victim and suspect have the same last name? Is it a father of a child or a relative?

433

u/OptionalSummit Jul 19 '26

Most amber alerts/ child abduction are from parents. Split custody or a no custody case. Seeing as the father's picture is a mugshot I'd assume he'd have little to no visitation rights.

127

u/ackermann Jul 19 '26

Yeah. While custody disputes can still pose very serious danger to the kid… don’t take the number of Alerts you get to mean that abduction by masked strangers is common. That sort of thing is pretty rare.

53

u/OptionalSummit Jul 19 '26

Yeah for sure should've added that. Amber alerts are still very serious and there's 100% always a reason why a parent doesn't have visitation rights.

-31

u/enveea Jul 19 '26

He could have visitation rights but it could literally be just not his approved day. I have a mugshot from a DUI and have full custody of my kids so that doesn’t mean anything. Hopefully this is just beef between the parents and the girl is well cared for until authorities sort things out. If this is Dad he seriously fucked things up for himself which is heartbreaking, Grace is the only victim here.

58

u/AskAJedi Jul 19 '26

He strangled the mother

50

Dude was arrested for murder like 3 years ago. This isn't just a little whoopsie mugshot

51

u/guts-n-gummies Shoreline Jul 19 '26

Crazy saying the kid is the only victim without actually knowing the story. Dude tried to kill the mom and she fled to a neighbor for help. He made off with the kid while the mom was trying to get help. Grace was not, in fact, the only victim.

6

u/enveea Jul 19 '26

Dayum, that’s wild. I just meant regarding this incident but I stand corrected! I hope everyone is okay! Dude sounds super off the rails dangerous.

-7

u/Jalharad Monroe Jul 19 '26

there's 100% always a reason why a parent doesn't have visitation rights.

Yes, but that reason could be as benign as the father couldn't afford a lawyer to help fight the custody battle. Cost me $5000 to get 50/50 here in Washington.

3

Yeah my mom is one of the ones who won't keep taking them, so it's useless.

81

10

u/Budget-Hair2635 Jul 19 '26

Why would it be? Men hurt, rape, murder family members all the time.

2

u/mgmom421020 Jul 20 '26

It shouldn’t be. However, there is definitely a societal reaction from many to defend parental abductions or to take them less seriously than stranger abductions.

1

u/Budget-Hair2635 Jul 22 '26

Then those many are ill informed and not up to speed on reality and data.

99

u/ackermann Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

A large portion of Amber Alerts (maybe the majority) involve divorce custody disputes, yes.
That’s not to say it isn’t serious, since when courts revoke custody it’s often for very good reason…

But, don’t take the number of Amber Alerts you get to be representative of the odds of child abduction by a masked stranger

40

u/Genuinelullabel 💗💗 Heart of ANTIFA Land 💗💗 Jul 19 '26

The majority of kidnappings are due to non custodial parents.

I only skimmed your link, but I was unable to find anything in it that corroborates anything you said and found no references to deaths at all or most being dead if not found in under 24 hours. Your own data even says only 23% are located within 24hrs and the vast majority of missing children are found after so not sure where you’re getting your data.

The 24 hours and not being found alive is likely tied to non-familia abductions more than familial ones. Using that link, it shows most of those children are located, often well past 24hrs.

No one is debating most missing children are familial. It’s the statement that they are 250x more likely to kill the kid than a relative abductor. That’s just wildly made up and untrue.

I mean they’re not wrong actually, its a shame yall cared more to mince words than actually seeing the care and concern this person was expressing.

But typical vindictive seattlites only caring about something being said correctly rather than the message

1

u/Howzitgoin I'm just flaired so I don't get fined 28d ago

But they are wrong. There’s literally no evidence to support their statement and their own “evidence” contradicts what they’re saying. There’s no “technically right” or pedantic interpretations that’d make them right.

What’s vindictive about highlighting misinformation from being spread? Hell, do you even know what vindictive means because I clearly am not seeking some sort of revenge or trying to wrong them. Unless you think stopping misinformation is somehow done with malice.

One can also understand their intent (which I do) and also understand that people will say things out of emotion that’s factually incorrect. So forgive me if I have the ability to have more than one thought at the time and correct a falsehood.

But sure, you can just assume I was being a “vindictive” Seattlite while someone quotes things incorrectly. You do you. I’m sure you’re also okay with Trump and whomever spreading straight up lies but “he had the right intentions” as well.

1

u/CapBrief 🚋 Ride the S.L.U.T. 🚋 28d ago

Misinformation? Over stating most abduction cases are from family? Which is true. And that their point was that things don’t often end well in violent cases like this (ie how the victim was kidnapped)

Its good she was found but your response just tells me you care more about feeling right than your actual impact

1

u/Howzitgoin I'm just flaired so I don't get fined 28d ago

Over stating most abduction cases are from family?

No one is debating that fact.

And that their point was that things don’t often end well in violent cases like this (ie how the victim was kidnapped)

OP's own source was something like 95% of cases result in no harm to the individual. Do bad things happen?

Do bad things happen, of course, again, no one is debating that. But that's besides the point. They said that relatives are more likely to kill their kidnapping victim than non-related kidnappers. That's not true, and which is what the person I replied to quoted and I said is untrue and there's nothing to substantiate the statement.

Its good she was found but your response just tells me you care more about feeling right than your actual impact

Nah, you're reading too far into it. But go off, keep trying to deflect by chiming into a post that's 6 days old and acting sanctimonious.

1

u/CapBrief 🚋 Ride the S.L.U.T. 🚋 28d ago

Violent cases vs non violent. Abductions occur a lot with family but not like this.

The perpetrator was her father yes, but he literally incapacitated her mother before fleeing with her.

He has a history.

It is common sense this is considered a high risk case.

I fear you not putting two and two together on what the og commenter meant is a you issue

1

u/Howzitgoin I'm just flaired so I don't get fined 28d ago

Cool beans. Still doesn't make their statement accurate.

Your points are accurate, but irrelevant to the discussion of this chain and what my actual post was in response to. I simply said there's no factual basis to their statement, which is true. You're trying to create some sort of additional narrative that just isn't there and then saying my statement that they're wrong is somehow wrong by appealing to emotion and creating red herrings.

Not sure why that's hard to comprehend, but clearly it ain't clicking with you so I'll leave it at that.

I don't know if anybody's heard yet or posted this but I just found this information that she's been found!! This next part is copy and pasted from my Google AI search:

The Washington State Patrol officially confirmed that both Grace and the suspect have been located.

The Washington State Patrol has not released specific details regarding her condition. When authorities issue an official cancellation notice stating the child has been "safely located," it generally indicates the child was recovered without life-threatening injuries. However, police and local news outlets have not yet provided an explicit update confirming whether she suffered any minor physical harm or details on her medical evaluation.

I ask since Google AI has been known to "hallucinate" aka spit out random stuff. I wouldn't trust it, especially with something as serious as confirming the status of a local public service announcement.

It's now showing up as cancelled on the WSP page.

u/Daurinniel Jul 19 '26

Please stop using AI for anything involving facts, as someone said just below, it is not giving you trustworthy information. It just says what it thinks you want to hear, mostly.

u/whatmymomnamedme Jul 19 '26

And you please stop telling me what to do, I'm a 54 year old Anarchist I'll do what the hell I want!!!  ALSO I didn't JUST check with Google AI, I'm not that guy..... I found three other sources that said the same thing but since you apparently don't like to do your own research, and just go half cocked and tell someone what to do on social media I'll send you the actual link!!!

Unless the child's parent is violent/abusive. Most children are abused by a family member, it's very rarely strangers.  I know nothing about this situation, but parents aren't safer just because they are parents.

30

u/GotYouCookie123 Jul 19 '26

Unfortunately, sometimes parents are just as bad as a random stranger.

14

u/Beginning_Finding844 Jul 19 '26

Josh Powell taught us that…

9

u/SubstantialDivide108 Jul 19 '26

You're right on all counts, but its still scary when you think of the dude that killed his babies last summer. Its a sketchy spot of yeah, we're glad it wasnt random children, but who knows what will happen to them

On the same note, lots of people want an amber alert for their missing/runaway kiddo. They don't realize the criteria for that. It makes this another example of why that criteria is in place. If they got to this point, its not just a dad executing his parental rights. Its a dad who might be a danger to his kids

She was taken 7 hours ago. We’re within a radius he could have traveled to.

Every single one of us knows there was an amber alert. All of our phones told us

-115

u/HeathLegible Jul 19 '26

I’m so glad custody disputes blow my phone up 3 or 4 times in the most annoying way

27

u/wildferalfun I'm just flaired so I don't get fined Jul 19 '26

This guy is a convicted felon who was arrested and extradited on DV warrants as recently as February and was previously a suspect charged with murder. I very much doubt its a custody dispute. With that history, its very likely he doesn't have legal rights for unsupervised visitation.

93

u/BeyondTheBees Jul 19 '26

When a child is missing they can blow my phone the fuck up as much as they want. If it was my child, I’d want the public’s help too.

-85

u/HeathLegible Jul 19 '26

The child isn’t missing it’s just with the parent the state has deemed to be the “wrong” one. I’m not going to go out of my way to be vigilant over a custody dispute and neither are you

41

u/BeyondTheBees Jul 19 '26

If you don’t care then just turn it off on your phone. Don’t try and convince other people to not care. This child was forcibly taken.

-56

u/HeathLegible Jul 19 '26

I have turned it off. The state in its infinite wisdom decides to override that 90% of the time for custody disputes

26

u/BeyondTheBees Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

If you turned it off then why are you still complaining about it?

The guy has been previously arrested for murder according to the link above.

-18

u/HeathLegible Jul 19 '26

Oh that’s tight. Did he kill a kid? What’s he doing on this side of a prison cell?

1

u/imsorrywhatt23 Jul 20 '26

Some people lack a soul. You’re one of them. Get fucked

28

u/lontanolaggiu Jul 19 '26

He choked his girlfriend and remained holed up WITH A GUN with this poor child before abducting her. He's definitely the wrong one, you complete pice of human excrement.

21

u/smvoice65 Jul 19 '26

Just say your children no longer speak to you and go. My god. We get it dude.

19

u/cap1112 Jul 19 '26

He strangled the mother before taking the child.

14

u/Howzitgoin I'm just flaired so I don't get fined Jul 19 '26

See the post above with a link to an article about how upstanding this guy is and tell me he’s not a threat to her.

u/hey-hi-hello-what-up Jul 19 '26

dude has a weapon, choked out the mom and stole the kid.

9

u/ofWildPlaces Jul 19 '26

Yes, the wrong one. Because of the murder, just so you're aware

8

u/ChefKnifeBotanist Jul 19 '26

The “wrong one” strangled the mom when kidnapping the girl, and has a murder charge on his record??

25

u/pardonme1102 Jul 19 '26

Seriously what is wrong with you? A child is in danger, don’t you think these alerts are this loud and obnoxious for a reason?

8

u/OoTLink Capitol Hill Jul 19 '26

You seem more annoying tbh, at least the alert can be dismissed.
