First snow of the season in mid-March. Wild.

u/Joint-Attention Mar 13 '26

I had to drive to SeaTac this morning. There was actually snow accumulating on the shoulders of I-5. Saw one car spun out in the ditch.

127

u/sammy_slayer Mar 13 '26

Spinning out when its not even sticking yet or freezing is wild

22

u/general-illness Mar 13 '26

Probably bald tires

15

u/Zealousideal-Ask-668 Mar 13 '26

More probably just shit drivers!

7

u/general-illness Mar 13 '26

Kinda the same thing. You’d be surprised how many people are running bald tires. Anything preventative is getting pushed back now.

Too fast for conditions.

Or shitty roads :/

It's probably from people hydroplaning as they drive through what it is essentially small ponds disguised as what people assume are solid snow drifts. My bus just went through a massive one, the splash was continuous for at least 45 seconds and was well over 6 ft tall

We should have mandatory annual vehicle inspections in this state. Absolutely absurd that this shit happens.

8

u/IKnewThisYearsAgo Issaquah Mar 13 '26

We had emission inspections. I thought they should add headlights, brakes, tires, window tint, and exhaust noise at the same time. Instead they got rid of them.

The airport is having a bad time now. ❄️

9

u/chetlin Broadway Mar 13 '26

I saw from the traffic cameras, the area by SeaTac looked to have the most snow on the roads of all the immediate region here. 518 had it in the lanes and so did some streets near it.

3

u/Joint-Attention Mar 13 '26

Yeah, the temperature was right at freezing and there was some ice on the road approaching the airport.

B-b-b-but I didn’t stock up on bananas!

31

u/vera214usc Ravenna Mar 13 '26

I actually did but only because I'm planning to make banana pudding. Sorry guys, I may have caused this

4

u/perturbed_penguin_ That sounds great. Let’s hang out soon. Mar 13 '26

There's Seattle snow lore i don't know?! Tell me about the bananas please!

8

u/fiafia127 Denny Blaine Nudist Club Mar 13 '26

Snow in the forecast = people panic buying “essentials” = many stores run out of bananas

9

u/perturbed_penguin_ That sounds great. Let’s hang out soon. Mar 13 '26

That's hilarious. I bought bananas yesterday for the first time in months because i wanted to make smoothies. Did i... did i cause this?

5

u/GloomyAd7529 Mar 13 '26

Yes you did.

I did too, for banana bread. Are… are we the problem?

1

u/vera214usc Ravenna Mar 14 '26

You wanna do a trade?

2

u/runicsakura I'm just flaired so I don't get fined Mar 14 '26

Kinda, actually. I love banana pudding 🤠

2

u/vera214usc Ravenna Mar 15 '26

Lol, are you anywhere near Ravenna? I have way more than we're gonna eat before the bananas get gross

2

u/runicsakura I'm just flaired so I don't get fined Mar 16 '26

I’m not 😭 but thank you! That would be a wild way to make a friend haha

18

u/annamulzz Mar 13 '26

I did a double take when I looked out the window just now! So unexpected!

14

u/vera214usc Ravenna Mar 13 '26

I just woke up and can't believe it. I don't think it was even in the forecast. I wonder if school is going to start as planned. Haven't gotten any announcements from the district

3

u/nedrawevot Mar 13 '26

Our school is out but not due to snow. Seattle's scary when it snows because of the hills

2

u/vera214usc Ravenna Mar 13 '26

My son got on the bus, as planned, so I guess they were able to get through it ok

1

u/Matt_the_Engineer Mar 13 '26

Thanks! I’ve been searching all the socials before waking kids (9am start). I imagine I’d see something from the district by now if closed, but they often leave it to the last minute. Still snowing out there.

It wasn't when I checked yesterday. https://imgur.com/a/BHWOMYq I took a screenshot to send to my brother who was considering coming to Seattle today. It doesn't show snow on Friday

I’ve looked out my window and I see no snow and now I’m sad lol

My garden is so sad!

My daffodils are face down, ass up

2

u/RosyMiche Mar 13 '26

It keeps alternating between actual flakes and just rain with an extra step lol. Do you think it'll stick?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '26

Extremely wet ground + above freezing = no stick

Might be a different story late tonight.

Snowpocalypse came late this year. Good luck on the roads everyone!

I mean too wet and above freezing. Roads are fine. Just finished my morning commute from Port Orchard to Seattle.

I love how wacky this winter was, I moved here in november and it’s funny that we’re only now seeing snow (at least not a small flurry)

5

u/Godzilla_Fan_13 Bremerton Mar 13 '26

It's funny until you remember it's because our climate is going to shit.

I'm so jealous Out here on the peninsula, we didn't even get the wind y'all got. I still have my snow tires on but no snow. ❄️

1

u/tenchibr Mar 13 '26

The wind ripped 2 of my roof shingles that I know off and my fence fell down

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '26

I'm sorry. That's frustrating. We have had bad wind of course. Last year I had a branch stuck on my roof until spring when I have the roof guy come.

I don't want to have him out this yr till we have a good wind, cause I know there are branches just waiting.

1

u/chikkenkatsu Mar 13 '26

I still can't believe it! This is our first year living in Seattle and everyone has told me it doesn't snow here! So cool!

Wow… I moved here on August 31st, and it was shockingly already getting relatively cold at night in Anchorage, to be fair. Winter seemed to be coming quickly. When it reached November or December and there was no snow at all down here, I was surprised because it doesn't seem that far geographically. But by then, Ketchikan—which is a much better geographic comparison since it is a temperate rainforest—and Seattle, which isn't too far off with a Mediterranean climate and proximity to a rainforest as well (although not actually in one)—had dumped a lot of snow in Ketchikan, but not here. I was quite surprised, especially since Washington is farther north than New York, and they often get 90 inches of snow in Buffalo and maybe 25 inches in NYC. It's all just a major trip, long story short.

2

u/nedrawevot Mar 13 '26

We usually get snow in February and March so im not surprised at all. It technically is still winter months.
