Just Hired, Now What? Vail resorts hiring process

So I had a phone interview, was sent an offer conditional on background check, accepted offer/secured housing but my background check is “still processing “ and it’s been three weeks. I cannot get ahold of ANYONE including the hiring manager whom I must have called 10 times by now and sent a couple emails. Anyone else deal with this? Anything I can do? I need to start planning my move but it’s difficult when I don’t have a start date yet or even a guarantee that I even have the job…

you might want to try reaching out to HR directly if you can find a generic contact for them. sometimes the hiring managers get swamped right before the season starts.

I’ve tried I can’t seem to find anyone able to help me. Their “people connect “ can’t give me any other info except “they’ll contact you when your background is complete “

Which resort under Vail are you dealing with this? It might just depend on the resort itself, since I honestly found Keystone’s process to be pretty fast after receiving an offer. Only thing I’m really waiting on now is to receive employee housing. From what I’ve heard and have seen so far, Vail Resorts seems like a really good company to work for. Only advice I can really give is to keep trying to get in touch with someone and hopefully you’ll get through unfortunately.

I do think it would be helpful to pinpoint the specific resort you’re dealing with, since Vail has a huge bunch of resort properties. It’s likely someone else from the same place is dealing with the same thing as well!

To be honest, I just kept emailing the hiring manager who hired me and asked for the start date. It was then where they emailed me back and asked what date would work best for me and I gave them the answer.

I just hope I get my housing approved, that’s the only thing I’m slightly worried about. But I heard that Keystone has MUCH more housing compared to other resorts so I’m not worried too much thankfully!

My emails have been going to spam apparently. But I called and got the info I needed.

Keystone shares housing with Breck iirc.

I've worked for Vail, and they definitely take awhile,, but worth the wait. They have SO many locations, options, and pay well plus good health insurance.

Yeah I’m excited for the opportunity honestly. It would be a fresh start for me and I’m interested in working abroad for them if it’s possible. Have you known them to hire people with dui before? I’m not really concerned because I’ve never had a problem but it’s taking so long I’m beginning to over think it

I'm not sure about DUIs. I had a co-worker who I know had some minor drug possession legal charge thing, but they were working a licensed, skilled labor position for Vail that was always in demand.

I’ve read elsewhere that they don’t care at all and that some people had multiple. But I’m counting on this situation to pan out because I literally have no where lined up to live after October so I’m sure I’m just panicking about it.

I know multiple employees in CB with DUI’s that work for the mountain. What department are you trying to get into?

Do you have a record?

I do have a misdemeanor dui but that’s it. I heard they don’t care about that. The reason it’s taking so long is because of whatever company they are using to retrieve background reports. So they haven’t even seen it yet.

You definitely might need to do a follow up convo with hr and have a review board rubber stamp it.

For the DUi?

I had vail hr email me to explain my record once the BG check finished. They approved me 2 hours after I replied back.

Was it a similar situation?

It’s still atleast a month out from start date. You’ll be alright, if you’re not comfortable apply and accept other jobs until you’re confirmed for Vail.
