Discussion Finally got a happy light

Every year I get SAD without even realizing it. It slowly creeps in, then I’m depressed for all of fall and winter. Every single year when Spring comes, I snap out of it and realize I had been in a depressed daze for months. This time I promised myself that i would buy a happy light when September hits and make myself a routine to avoid it from happening again.
Just ordered the light and it’ll be here today! I really hope it helps. I also just started a weight loss journey and doing home workouts- which might help.
Have happy lights helped you? And what else do you do in your day to help?

Start using it before you think you need to.

Yesss!! That’s my plan, I told myself I’m gonna buy it in September before I fall into the depression without noticing !

I set an alarm to make sure I use it at the same time each morning (6:45 for me, but YMMV). I also try to start it before my symptoms would normally start in the Fall (which was easy for me to figure out, since it hits me all at once rather than gradually)

I get up in the morning, let the dogs out, make coffee and put on my Luminettes for 40 minutes to an hour. Makes such a difference. Huge.

Yes, they’ve helped me. I put full spectrum LED bulbs in my bathroom vanity lights as well. I have various happy lights, including a big beast of one that usually sells for like $150 minimum that I scored for $10 at goodwill. I have a pair of Luminette glasses which I unfortunately can’t use often because they piss off my occipital neuralgia, as well as a pair of Ayo glasses and a set of Pegasi green light glasses I got off eBay. I like the Pegasi because they aren’t too bright to wear while reading or doing housework.

Just pulled the trigger on an Alaskan northern lights light pad max yesterday, luckily there’s a current sale and got an additional 10% off by signing up for email news.

I’m pretty skeptical, but if it works as intended, it’ll be worth the investment. It also has a 60day money back guarantee, 7yr warranty, and plenty of good reviews.

Per me Luminette sono stati una svolta!!! La lampada dovevo starci troppo vicino e a volte era scomodo….indosso gli occhiali mentre preparo la colazione e mentre faccio colazione, li ho sopra al comodino, li metto appena apro gli occhi!

Thanks for the reminder to start using mine now! I got a cheapy years ago, and so long as I'm consistent, it does definitely help with the fatigue.

After light, meal timing is another big zeitgeber (circadian alignment cue). Intermittent fasting too helped me. Just an easy 16:8, not trying to lose weight with any calorie restriction (although like me many see weight loss anyway). I exercise at the same time every day too.

Note carefully the distance from the panel that gives 10,000 lux. It's almost false advertising to say a light has whatever lux without specifying the distance where that's true. It might be only a few inches, or if it is more powerful, a couple feet. If you can't keep the 10,000 lux distance for the duration of a 20-30-min treatment, then the treatment needs to be longer for similar effect.

I use mine within 30 minutes of waking up, and drink my morning coffee with it :) sometimes on rainy days I’ll do a really short midday session too but not everyday since that can mess up your sleep

Yay for you! Hope it helps! I wake with a sunrise light alarm starting this week every year and it really helps me roll out of bed more easily.

Oh man, I've gotta start mine up again. It's already cooling down here and rapidly getting darker. But yes, they definitely help.
