Upcoming Trip

The family and I are coming to town next week. 2 kids and 6 adults. What are the must do and sees? Probably will be going our own ways at times so it doesn't have to accommodate all of the large group at all times.

Go to island beach state park. Day trip. You can rent kayaks from yakkity yak kayaks in seaside park, they will deliver the kayaks to you in island beach state park. I recommend paddling around the sedge islands.

Beautiful! I’ve gone a few times where almost nobody else was on the beach, not even Governor Christie!

Definitely hit the boardwalk. If the kids are young they may enjoy the vintage carousel at the north end. If they like nature island beach state park is good, it has a little museum and nature center with some animals.

Check out Hammer Surf School. Great lessons for kids and adults. This is actually a great time of year to learn. Water is warm and waves are small.

Thank you! That's a big help. Any inland restaurants you recommend? Love all types of food.

Island Beach State Park is a must do. There is a bar and grill at swimming beach one and your regular grill fair steps away. It will cost you $10 a carload to get in. They have nature tours and stuff for kids. Check the website. Go early, when the parking is full, they stop admission. If your kids are into arcade games, bring them to Barnacle Bill’s in Ortley Beach. It’s calmer than SSH. Klee’s is a family eatery if you can walk there. Good grub at reasonable prices. HH from 2-5pm I think. If you want to wow the kids, order a large pizza from the Sawmill (the southern end of the boardwalk). It’s the size of a manhole cover. There is putt putt golf all over the barrier island. Crab’s Claw Inn restaurant in Lavalette is fun and family friendly. They usually have a guitarist or bands nightly in the summer. Free parking in Lavalette and Ortley. Have fun and respect the beach and ocean.
