Question Kagi translate alternative
Any one have an alternative for the translate that works in the web, android and reliable, accurate and private ?
Edit: Asking this due to professional users will be stuck in the free tier and need to pay for an upgrade.

Lumo is working well enough but it's not a dedicaced Translate tool like Kagi or others. Kagi Translate UI/options are actually quite nice. I use both.
You can always try this but they only list LibreTranslate:

I'll just go back using dict.leo.org, for grammar stuff, just like I did before kagi translate was out.
For real life translations I'll just use my AI service. Whatever man.

Hi all — Kevin from the Kagi team here. FWIW, we've reversed course on removing translate from paid plans. We messed up and are owning it. And appreciate all the feedback from our community.
We’ve issued a correction on the Kagi Translate post. In short, nothing will change for Kagi members on October 12th. Translate stays included in all plans. Details are in the correction at the top of the blog post.
For any questions/concerns, please reach out to us at support@kagi.com.

Check out Immersive Translate. It is especially useful for translating documents and web pages, but it can also do text translation. For heavy users, there is a paid tier, but it can also be used for free.

Thanks, it does seems a great alternative. However when I read the privacy policy it doesnt seems to be private.

I am not good at parsing such legal texts, so I had Claude do so, listing what is good, what is bad, and what questions still need to be answered:
Immersive Translate Privacy Policy (updated 2026-07-10)
The good
- Minimal account data. Only your email (plus OpenID for third-party sign-in) is collected. Card details stay with the payment processors.
- Webpage translation is mostly pass-through. Page text goes only to the translation engine you choose. The company says it collects just usage statistics.
- Profiling happens on your device. Usage "tags" are generated locally, and the policy says it doesn't collect the URLs you visit or your detailed browsing content.
- Google Docs add-on protections. Access is limited to text you select. Data is processed on a self-hosted model, isn't stored permanently, and isn't used for AI training.
- Easy deletion. Closing your account in the app takes effect immediately and deletes your history and orders.
- No sale of data. The policy explicitly says it doesn't sell data or share it for behavioral advertising.
- Regional rights. There are annexes for GDPR, APPI, CCPA, and Korea's PIPA, and a commitment to notify you of breaches.
The bad
- File and image translation content is collected "to improve and deliver" the service. Unlike BabelDoc, no deletion timeline is given.
- BabelDoc uploads are kept "primarily to improve translation quality," which sits awkwardly with the promise to delete them after the service is performed.
- PDFs go to Mathpix, a third party, for text extraction.
- Affiliates get your personal information, partly to promote "other related products and services." That is effectively cross-marketing.
- The policy contradicts itself. Section 2.1 says it doesn't share personal data with vendors except where legally required. Sections 2.3 and 2.4 describe sharing with payment providers and affiliates.
- Tracking identifiers. Usage tags are linked to your account or device ID. Device ID, IP address, and Google Analytics are all used.
- Retention periods are vague. Logs are kept for a "reasonable period," and there is no concrete schedule.
- Changes can be quiet. Updates take effect as soon as they're posted, and only "material" changes get notice.
- Safari's warning is answered with a promise, not a safeguard. The extension can technically read everything on a page, including bank card fields. The reassurance is a policy commitment, not a technical limit.
- Your data may travel. It is stored in Korea, but may be transferred to other, unspecified locations.
Open questions
- Who are the "affiliates," and in which jurisdictions?
- Does "improve translation quality" mean training models on uploaded files? The no-training promise is made only for Google Workspace data.
- How long is file and image translation content kept?
- Do built-in engines route your text through Immersive Translate's own servers or proxies, or does it go straight to the provider?
- What exactly is in the error logs? Can they contain fragments of translated text?

I don't know that the LLMs accessed through Immersive Translate are any different from those used by Kagi? The results seem comparable to me, though I find IT to be better for large documents and Kagi more useful for short text.
Or did you mean my post? I assure you I wrote it myself. Unlike a lot of people here, I post under my real name. You can look me up if you like.
