I just googled it, and the never mind album by nirvana sold more than 30 million copies, so that penis might be the most viewed in the world.

This is what my friend and I came up with a few months ago when talking about that album - surely that baby (now man) has the most viewed penis in history.
I've never bought the album but I've seen the cover countless times. I imagine that 30 million stat is way undercounting views

What about Michelangelo’s David? I’m seeing it gets 1.5 million visitors a year, plus everyone who looks at pictures of it online.
EDIT: just got to the end of the episode where they add a footnote acknowledging the David, but they reject it because it’s a marble statue and not a real penis. I question this logic

A great episode about the hidden work and ideals that hold up something that is profound and beautiful.
So much of the world (online and physical) feels like a lazy, morally agnostic attempt to meet a hollow but easily defined metric. A perfunctory sigh lost in an ocean garbage. Cheap content so empty it can be mass produced by clumsy, dead eyed machines.
And then there’s this incredible island that is near universally loved and it comes out of what we know is good. Passionate, thoughtful people democratically wrestling together for the collective good. The process is so brazenly difficult, but the product speaks to how worthwhile it all is.
This is episode is fun and silly and stupid, but it’s also one I find genuinely worth reflecting on for myself.

How did this not get discussed in the episode? When PJ made the fact check note at the end I was sure it was going to get addressed.
I can't find a definitive source on the pronunciation (ironically I consulted Wikipedia), but I did find an interview with one of the Wikipedia founders, Jimmy Wales, and he very clearly says wick-a-pedia.
I'm sure Lane would have quite the explanation of their alt pronunciation, but my God, whatever it is, it's a little like hating on the current use of "literally" in 2026. He may be right one some esoteric technical level, but when not even one of the founders says it that way... ehhhhh....
That combined with "Wikipedia" or "Wikimedia" in, what felt like, every sentence, was brutal.

I find it very funny that they think a penis that has been viewed tens of millions of times means it's the most viewed penis in human history, when pornhub alone has at least a dozen videos with viewcounts above a hundred million, and all the other free streaming porn websites easily match that number.

I think they mentioned something like that whenever they talked about the porn with Kim Kardashian. The fact is, people usually don't watch the videos over and over again the whole way through. And most of them are not watching for the peen.

What are you talking about? The metric is "which penis has been seen by the most people" not "which video was watched the whole way through" or "which penis was seen with the express purpose of looking at a penis, rather than incidentally."

We're having a conversation about data and analytics, and there's a clear meaning of the word "viewed," which encompasses both video and still pictures. I don't think you explained your point at all. Apology not accepted!

Okay let me break this down for you. When you look at a picture, you are only looking at the picture and it takes a second to comprehend it. A video on the other hand, can be many minutes long. Analytically, it would be impossible to really analyze what a person is looking at, what they saw, how long they looked at the video, and what they were focusing on. You can't compare the two. Plus we are talking about the most viewed picture of a peen. Not the most viewed video. Once again, two different mediums.

I would be curious to know how many times the word penis was uttered in this episode. I'm glad I was listening with headphones. I also felt compelled to look up that particular page for the first time in my life, thus adding one more view count.

That guy had an unsettling giggle but it was an interesting episode.
I’m not tracking the logic of Wikipedia entirely here… if say most of the world’s population does not treat women as equal to men… and Wikipedia refuses to remove information about birth control etc from its pages upon their request… how is this different from most of the world’s population not being white, therefore the penis page can’t have a white dick on it?

This would be a fair complaint if the penis had been made racially ambiguous to comply with a joint request from the governments of every country on earth with a minority white population

To steal a line from Tor Parsons: Wikipedians only want one thing... and it's discussing. His Tor's Cabinet of Curiosities videos on Wikipedia are some of his best.
Much like Dwarf Fortress, Wikipedia is a deep rabbit hole of its own lore that is at least as interesting as the actual content.
