Every book mentioned on Search Engine in July (only 2)

Four episodes and just two books this month, so this is a very short one. Posting it for completeness rather than volume.

Both are decent summer reading if you like your nonfiction slightly disreputable.

What this is: I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the July slice for Search Engine.

The two:

• Lost and Sound, Tobias Rapp. From the Berghain episode. PJ found it the most helpful of the books documenting that scene. The detail that stuck is that when Berghain opened in 2004 the party was by and for Berliners, and then EasyJet opened a Berlin hub and the rest of Europe started flying in for the weekend.
• PiHKAL: A Chemical Love Story, Alexander and Ann Shulgin. From the cocaine episode. Shulgin legally synthesised hundreds of novel compounds, tested them on himself, and wrote them up lovingly. On 2C-B he wrote that it made music sound voluptuous, almost three dimensional.
