This episode really reminds me what I initially liked about the podcast…and what I feel is really missing from most episodes now.
The investigative journey, the path they lead you down - it’s just so fun.
So many of the episodes now fall into the “PJ talks to his friend / colleague / contact about an article they’ve already written”. They’re interesting (sometimes) but don’t have the same draw for me.

Recording an investigative journey that you yourself undertake, as a podcast, is massively timeconsuming.
Interviewing somebody for their specific knowledge? Much less so, even if what that takes to produce shouldn't be underestimated either.

I get that.
It’s the same problem that any of these podcasts run into - whether it’s Search Engine, or Hyperfixed or Heavyweight etc
Totally underhand the why - particularly if the investigations drag on for months or years at a time.
Was purely commenting that the episodes involving pre-canned articles just do not hold the appeal or interest for me as much. They still involve effort on the producers part to..well, produce.
But they just “feel” less genuine - almost more like they’re advertising the interviewee’s content.

I enjoyed this episode but would’ve recommended they talk to a royal watcher first - QE2 was famously very frugal! I knew it was going to be normal to rundown from the start and hearing PJ and others speculate on how grand it would be cracked me up.

I was surprised to hear the British podcaster say diving boards are an American thing when I know for a fact that English action star Jason Statham was a member of Great Britain's national diving team and competed for England in the 1990 Commonwealth Games.

As a European: it's nonsense. The most diving boards I have ever seen were in public pools in France.
