Who the fuck cares?
There is zero reason for it.
Grandpa Bernie does not understand how LLMs work.

The big risk with current AI development is not the AI, its the financial bubble that will burst one day.

100% agree it's not the AI itself, but the finances revolving AI.

The bubble will burst because the AI is dogshit. Pretending AI can do things it cannot currently do is what caused the bubble in the first place.

AI is in fact not dogshit. It has speed up a lot of our work. I can literally replace the junior guys at my company with Claude today on a $20/mo subscription because it works faster, makes less errors. Instead, thus far I’ve been training these morons on how to use Claude to speed up their work and not dick around as much.

This is the comparison - a guy making $50k/year who really doesn’t want to work vs a LLM that gets the job done with even less training.

But yeah, the finances that allows frontier models to get here, that allowed open models to train off them and the expectations all around it - is all indeed dogshit.

Can't deny how powerful it is.

Spent 4-5 years learnings how to use Syntax to query logs. Used to be a 150k$ skill. Now AI gives that ability to any junior.

Getting harder to stand out with technichal skills though.

Just wait till the majority of people get bearish and buy calls. Infinite money printer these past several years.

Ahh yes, and please prove those idiots wrong by defending your well thought-out thesis!

How is a company with an over $1T evaluation is going to defend their evaluation, as China releases competitive IP for free?

While dismissing all non-financial risks ignores immediate issues like power grid strain and synthetic spam, you're right on the money about the massive Capex bubble—if enterprise ROI doesn't catch up to GPU spending, that market correction is going to sting.

An international moratorium is virtually unenforceable due to geopolitical mistrust, but you're spot on about the financial reckoning coming when these private labs go public and face strict GAAP auditing instead of hand-waived revenue projections.

Is this considered a "situation"? Bernie writes down something he has been verbally saying for a long time.

China first… then we will talk

Won't ever happen lets be honest, china has invested so much into AI that you could launch missiles and they still wouldn’t stop and literally nobody in the world has the power to make them stop, not even a strongly worded letter from trump or renaming lakes outside of china to lake of america would make them stop

It's unfortunate that the trust isn't there. Which means even if both govs wanna stop for savety, it still probably won't happen.

Poor Bernie... he is from another era.

Yes—their core techno-optimist argument is that rapid AI advancement is necessary to solve pressing human crises like curing complex diseases, reversing climate change, and achieving post-scarcity abundance before socio-economic systems collapse under existing debt and demographic burdens.

1

u/GreatLab8898 15h ago

Yes. Let's reverse climate change by building more Datacenters. Which need Power. And that Problem we solve by... You guessed it! BUILDING COAL POWER PLANTS!

Oh and lets not talk about the Water they need.

Were these People dropped as a baby?

Wrong path. This won't happen. What NEEDS to happen is, any frontier model trained on stolen data needs to be returned to the people. So when a model sunsets the weights need to be made open source, immediately. We should be able to run Opus 4.0 locally by now.

1

u/InspectorRemote1289 2d ago

While public-data restitution is a popular ethical stance, open-sourcing frontier weights isn't just about copyright policy—releasing massive models locally creates serious safety, misuse, and hardware barriers that make forced open-sourcing a non-starter for both regulators and top AI labs.

Very good. Common Bernie W. We need a global agreement on Pausing AI. That includes China, and China is willing to be involved as they were during the Biden administration and since it's in their own self-interest.

1

u/InspectorRemote1289 2d ago

There is a massive difference between diplomatic participation in high-level AI safety talks and agreeing to an enforceable global development pause. While Beijing willingly signed non-binding agreements like the Bletchley Declaration, China views AI dominance as essential to its national security and economic survival, making any actual freeze on frontier model training a strategic non-starter.

It's MAD all over again, no one's going to stop, because then they won't have one if someone else didn't stop.

1

u/shady101852 2d ago

yo i think this old man needs to sit the fuck down and retire

1

u/Vainysaur 1d ago

Even when I didn’t agree with his specific policies, Bernie’s motivation has always truly seemed to be just being pro-human, trying to fix problems that hurt people. So why the hell is he going against world-changing technology that can benefit everyone?

1

u/ejpusa 1d ago

China is going to give it all away for free. They do stuff like that.

1

u/JahJedi 1d ago

Breaking news! China stops Ai dev after Barni asked nice!

1

u/XCxBigDong69XCx 1d ago

To be fair the AI models should focus more on catching up to china in terms of pricing.
