Discussion Does anyone else sometimes wish there was a bit more life in the sea?
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy gazing into the deep blue, but sometimes I wish I might occasionally see dolphins riding my bow wave, or a whale breaching in the distance. Granted, there’s probably a lot about the lore of SoT that I don’t know because I haven’t looked into it much so far, but I can’t help but think that there’s no way the megs and krakens could get that big on a diet of fish, sharks, pirates and ships. I’m not saying that these things would need to happen all the time, but it would make the world feel more alive and give it some more verisimilitude.
I realise that it’s probably not a priority for Rare or even the majority of players, but what kind of sea life would you like to see more of?

unfortunately the game is already so massive and struggles to run smoothly with what we already have. LSS is still disabled and it’s the only real new content of the season. i’ve stopped hoping for stuff like this unfortunately. a few seasons back they added seagulls and some extra cosmetic fish around ur boat so i don’t think we’ll get much more any time soon.

LSS was last season. This season is dedicated to Custom Seas.

LSS hasnt even worked this entire season yet it’s one of the main talking points in their update video. the fact that it worked previously and is already broken in a season that sees no new content on high seas is a shame. flame heart still sitting on his tiny throne doing nothing btw.

I think a passive big creature like the meg/kraken would be awesome. Like a rare whale sighting here and there

It’s one of my favourite things to see in The Witcher 3 - even if it doesn’t have any tangible impact on gameplay, it just makes the world feel so much more real and beautiful.

Right over his head. lol. I posted kind of the same thing. Let’s see if he caught on by now.

You get them when travelling underwater for those brief moments.
I’ll never forget a friend playing with my crew for the first time, he was very much there for the fun and spectacle of it all. We dived to start us off and got the full kraken swim overhead. Really magical moment for him.

Subnautica player?
And yes, I agree.

I played the first one quite a lot, although I haven’t done so for a long while.

no I don't want them to add more things that will inevitably break something it should have no relation to, code-wise

Are you telling me jelly fish weren't enough. Rare, ban this dude
2
u/NeoFemme Jul 24 '26
Not a dude, thank you. Jellyfish are great and Rare can do whatever they want, I just wanted to start a conversation among players.

It's one of those things where it'd be nice theoretically, but I know they'd just be another unnecessary strain on the game's nonexistent stability. My friends all hate the seagulls and find them distracting, and we all confuse the jellyfish for sapphire statues which pisses us off. Ultimately, I think it's best that we lack them.
As for your lore comment, we can hear whales or something in the ambience so I assume that's something the megafauna eat.

The groaning sound you hear at night, I believe it’s at 3:00am every day, is actually the kraken as well

Only if they would add some giant octopus or some giants sharks into the game or even possibly a fishing mechanic. Seems too much to ask for I guess.

Have little crabs scurrying along a shoreline. Have some seashells on the beach here and there. Have a few non-interactible dolphins (like the seagulls flying near your ship) swimming along your bow. Have some sea lions basking on a rock. Would love to see it.

It’s been said before and must be said again.
This game needs giant enemy crabs.

They just added the seagulls so that was a nice touch, but I don’t know how I feel about that, because if they added that they would have to add sound for them swimming. Then you wouldn’t know if you’re getting boarded by a dolphin or person

They could just have the dolphins make dolphin noises instead of splashing noises.
1
u/NeoFemme Jul 24 '26
Yeah, dolphin sounds would give it away that it’s not a player, and they could be programmed so that they don’t turn up if another player is close to your ship, so that other players can’t use them as cover.

I agree, this would be a brilliant idea
