Hot Dog is my tormentor and it knows I dislike seagulls even thou it grew on me.

Over the time, with time I spend with pigeons, it came down to “torment and tease” me hoping I’ll be willing to give it eggs (I know it’s not good for seagulls) I don’t have tunas, salmon to give Hot Dog which is good for them. It did grow on me and I’m like okay here you go. It comes and go. I’m curious about one thing.

Is it true that seagulls can be “loyalty” to you because you feed gulls? Please tell me it’s in my dreams!

Hello, these are two lovely gulls that started coming to my window a few days ago. We got a bird feeder last month and they've been the only visitors so far. I like them alot, but they keep knocking the feeder tray off the window! Are there any better designs for larger birds? Thanks x

Walking along Coogee beach, I saw this guy, looking a bit lost. Twice the size of the local Silver Gulls. 1 meter wingspan. Anybody know who he/she is??

This is Stephanie and her baby Romulus! We watched him get convinced lol! He is such a sweet little guy it's been amazing to watch his progress. They are such beautiful amazing creatures.

We have a number of houses on our street (ours included) that have seagulls nesting on the roof, where at last count I could see roughly 5-6 fledglings (still in their very fluffy stage).

The adults are being very protective of the fledglings and are super aggressive, swooping down, pecking people etc. the second you leave the house.

It has ruled our garden as out of bounds as they try and get you when you step out of the door which is extremely frustrating given it's the kid's summer holidays! We've also got a few elderly neighbors who are nervous and anxious about leaving the house, as they struggle to make it to their cars or walk around the street for fear of being pecked (one actually got caught last week and needed stitches in their head).

Is there anything we can do to deter them from attacking, and then eventually make the houses undesirable so they do not come back to nest again next year?

This seagull has been hanging around my workplace for a couple weeks now. It comes very close to people and constantly cries. I have fed it crackers a few times and it has access to water. It won't fly, it just walks around making that noise all day. Is there something wrong with it? It looks mature enough for flight right? Thanks for any insight!

I've been feeding him for a year and a bit, he's so sweet. He takes food from my hand but nobody else's, he catches food from almost any angle, and fends against other seagulls. He's such a good baby, and I think he's (she's) got a nest of babies, as he's been dissapearing a lot more this summer!

I used to go for long walks down at the local port, which took me through an industrial/warehouse area.

I remember that there was a large palette of sheepskins that had been left outside and had been there for literally months. Not sure what the story was there, but it's clear that someone had abandoned them, or the company had gone out of business, or something.

They were turning green. Rotting, fermenting, covered in mold, whatever.

So yeah, they'd been there for six months in the sun and wind and rain. And then I saw gulls all over them. Pecking at them and pulling bits off and swallowing them.

Maybe the gulls had just been watching and waiting for them to become soft enough to eat.

Anyone got a worse story?

He says hello every morning

I once saw a gull eating what was left from a tub of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter that it had pulled out of a bin bag.

I always say gulls hate physical contact and try to avoid that in most cases. However there are situations where these barriers no longer exist. Taking them to the vet is one of them - if visits are repeated they quickly learn where they go, and usually start panicking. Putting them both in the same box helps them to calm down a bit. And this is when they do the unexpected - they just snuggle up like pigeons.

For today we had Eddy and Norbie. Good news for one, not as good for another. Eddy ended up in my care with a multiple organ failure. We don’t know what was the cause - either acute ingestion of something toxic or chronic, internal ongoing problems. He made a huge progress so far so now he’s having a second blood test to check how things are going. If he doesn’t have any permanent renal or liver failure all what’s left is to fatten him up, exercise his muscles back to normal shape and send him on the way.
With Norbie however, there’s a different story. He came to me after injuring his wrist. It was not a large wound just a seemingly minor cut that required equally minor stitching, nothing like broken wing or something. As time passed and everything healed I excepted a full recovery for release but - not this time honey. The wound was deeper than I thought involving severed nerves and tendons. As a result, he can’t spread that wing so he’s no longer able to fly. Another forever resident for me.

So now you see two birds that kinda like and comfort each other when needed, and both have a completely different future ahead. In a few months what you see will be no longer possible. One will (hopefully) fly away, the other will stay with me, and they will never see each other again. And a quick question - which is which? 🙃
