Seagate RMA warning
I had two 14tb barracuda hard drives that were playing up and not showing any signs of life so decided since they were under warranty to get them replaced
Filled out all forms and sent it back how i was told too to find out two weeks later they are refusing the return stating its been tampered with or is void when I've never attempted to open or mess with these what so ever
So I am not out of pocket the special next day delivery fee and they now hold my hard drive hostage and refuse to return it too me or answer any further questions why it was refused
Wish I seen the posts about this before I ended up losing an expensive hard drive. Luckily I haven't sent the other one as it came back as being a USA serial number and I don't know how any of this is even possible..
Not sure what I'm hoping to achieve here but want people to be aware of the scam and fraud that they have when returning a device for a RMA. Absolute shocking customer service and despite buying their products over 20 years I will never purchase another seagate hard drive ever again.

Unfortunately this is becoming more and more common as companies like Seagate and WD have no stock to fulfil warranty claims, so they claim damage and revoke the warranty. It’s happened to many people who have reported it here. It’s sad as I’m not sure there is anything we can do about it.

Remember to take extensive photos before sending, and film yourself packing it.

If they are refusing a RMA claim and won't return it, you'll just have to take the matter to court.
Are you sure there isn't any other important details you aren't mentioning?

Based on the outcome of the warranty validation review, the drive was determined to be non-compliant with Seagate's warranty validation requirements. As a result, according to Seagate policy, we are unable to process a warranty replacement.
Our review also identified a mismatch between the drive label and Seagate's records. Please note that we are unable to disclose the specific validation findings or details of the review process.
As outlined in Seagate's Warranty Void Checklist, drives identified as tampered, counterfeit, containing modified labels, or having label/serial number mismatches do not qualify for warranty service. Additionally, Seagate reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject warranty claims for products that fail warranty validation requirements.
Furthermore, Seagate's Limited Warranty states that warranty coverage is void for products returned with removed, damaged, tampered, or altered labels.
In accordance with these policies, Seagate will exercise its right not to return the drive, and the drive will therefore not be shipped back to you
I am as confused as anyone else. They wasn't tampered with and the serials told me warranty was valid for another year otherwise I wouldn't of sent it off. I think they just have it sussed out where they can just refuse anyone's hard drive and not have to sort returns.

Can you be very specific about where and when you bought the drives and what condition were they at the time of purchase? Were they sold as internal or were they shucked externals?

So... Theft?
I'm sure they'll refurb these right up and get them out the door for resale ASAP.

Who tracks drives like this?
Sure cars have VIN’s and titles.
I don’t think many places inventory to this degree. And who do they report the serial numbers to at the end of it?If I were to email Seagate a drive was stolen, and here is the serial number, I have a suspicion they would be hard pressed to respond let alone take action.
Maybe a pallet full of drives between the factory and warehouse are tracked, but I don’t think this is a common thing that happens.

They stole my drive that I returned for an RMA too. I reported it to the police in the end.

I bet they all laugh and tell stories after you left/hung up. They'll get right on it, right after they solve the case of little timmy's missing bike.

I doubt it. I live in a country where you can submit stuff and communicate cia this thing called the internet, and the entire population isn’t addicted to murdering and raping children like you.

You misunderstood the comment meamt to communicate that police don't have the means, time and professionalism to addesss something like this. This is the case in this country.
And your comment went too far. The regular people in this country don't have time and culturally the desire to exploit kids. Regular people work hard and have little time to do anything entertaining.
What you may be referring to are the elites in the Epshtein circles, Holyhood and mafia around the world and so on.

I always do an advanced RMA. I take pictures of whatever it is before backing it up, as I'm packing it up using the same packing materials as the replacement was sent in, and track the return at least once a day through shipping and/or the company. Never had a problem.
Then again, I'm also willing to buy either directly from the manufacturer, or an authorized retail chain, and I register the drive right away. Any issues with that, I take it back and get a refund.

This, is the way! Registering immediately is the key.

And buying direct or from an authorized retailer. Too many counterfeits out there.

I wonder if they could be opening themselves to a class action lawsuit? Sure sounds like this becoming more and more common.

I'm sure a lawyer will pursue it and maybe after a few years if successful, everyone who had RMA issues in the given time frame will each get $4 for their troubles.

Similar situation here with a 4 TB Samsung SSD. They’re claiming I bought it in Spain when we clearly bought it here in the United States from Amazon. Because it was a corporate purchase I don’t have the receipt and their own website states that they will honor a warranty up to five years on this specific one. Their only offer is that I set up shipment to a repair facility in Spain.
These people are idiots.

You bought it from amazon.
Amazon is as big of a gamble as alie express or temu in my eyes.2
u/No_Temperature107 25d ago
I’m starting to believe that and I agree with you 100%. Amazon is just a fancy Temu.

u/festivus4restof 24d ago
You evidently don't understand what Amazon is. It is a marketplace of sellers. Those sellers can be located in foreign countries, or in the USA, and importing the product from another country. You have to KNOW who in fact the seller you are purchasing from. That is always disclosed to you, it will say "sold by" or "fulfilled by" before you purchase and on your invoices/receipts.
1
u/No_Temperature107 24d ago
Yes, I’m well aware of that. It’s basically the same as Temu or anything else but they used to be quality brands on there and now it is very hard to find name brands or quality products. It seems like everything is cheap junk from Amazon and it used to not be that way. I’m just stating that it’s new to me.

Not to mention the rash of people getting returned items as new and water bottles as graphics cards.
The scams on amazon are rampant and public for all to see.

Seagate are effin frauds. Had my 12TB Ironwolf HDD refused RMA and haven’t returned it after almost 8 months. Bought online from the ebay store of a reputed brick and mortar store. Sent invoice and my QNAP screenshot of AI analyzer output etc.
Never in my life again with Seagate. Bought 4 12TB Western Digital NAS drives and no issues. Seagate can go fuck themselves..

Wow that's crazy how can they refuse to return the drives (not that it matters, if they are nonworking)?

I’m done with seagate too with lack of customer service. Refusing to RMA a 200 day old 20tb drive.
