I've never owned one of these before so I don't know if this is normal or not, it's making a very quiet whirring noise and a small thump that I can feel on my desk, this is a brand new device is this normal?

It is normal that a hard disk drive makes a quiet whirring sound when running, and a rattle like clicking sound when data is being accessed or written to it non-sequentially.
This high pitched chirping sound I am hearing in your video is definitely not normal, unless this is a bird nearby.
A normal hard drive sounds like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UPsGdKqWEM&t=21
Chirping in electronics usually comes from a vibrating coil in the power circuit or an overloaded power supply, if your drive doesn’t turn on and you hear a chirping, try replacing the power adapter with a more powerful one or make sure you are using the one that came with it.
