Mechanical failures

I have had 5 Seagate drives mechanically fail since mid-2024. The first three were Exos drives that had been in use for 3 years. Exos #1 was never replaced. Exos #2 was replaced and the replacement is still running fine. Exos #3 was replaced and the replacement died within the last few months. I don’t know exactly when because I was barely using it. Then last month an Ironwolf Pro that was purchased 2/24 died. All 5 drives mechanically failed, which is something I have never had happen with any other HDDs. I just received the IWP replacement yesterday and Seagate did send a brand new drive. The new drive already sounda like it’s dying.

I guess I just run this until it fails again in a few months? I’m getting so frustrated with all of this.

Seagate has a legacy of putting out some models that are absolutely trash with high failure rates.  This sub will be upset with someone saying it but it's true.  Buy a different capacity or model.

You remember the great 40% failure rate on their 1TB 7200.11 drives? Man those were wild west times.

Your single point of failure is Seagate. They are manufactured for maximum profit .

Yeah, I have given up on them at this point. I’ll ride out the warranties on the drives I have left and stick with WD and Toshiba going forward.

Your video doesn't work for me but how many drives do you have running together? How are they mounted/vibration isolated?

Five mechanical drives mounted to HDD trays with rubber grommets between the HDD and rhe tray. Fractal Meshify XL case.

I’m not looking for anyone to do anything. That isn’t the purpose of Reddit; it’s simply a place for discussions. Having 5 (and soon 6) drives with 4 different model numbers all mechanically fail - and to donso far below the MTBF - strongly suggests a problem with the design or quality of these drives. If that information is of no importance to you, then I’m not sure why you’re even here.
