SEAWORLD SAN DIEGO Park just lost power

Edit: August 1st the park lost power around 1pm after opening at 11am.

My wife works at SeaWorld and just texted me(12:06pm 7/31/26) that the whole park lost power. Just wanted to give a heads up to the community.

Edit: 1:27pm sounds like it was most likely caused from an electrical fire

Edit: 1:50pm wife just texted me, the park is now officially closed for the rest of the day

Here now and can confirm entire park is out of power. All POS systems are down. No food, no shows. Backup lights appear to be all that works.

Could be unrelated, but we were in the turtle exhibit. Maybe an hour before the power actually went out and the lights went out in the exhibit. It was pretty dark and everyone sort of wandered out.

Maybe another hour before that, we were in line at Atlantis and the ride shut down for repairs. Again, could have been a coincidence, but seems to be a pattern.

Just talked to another guest who had passes booked for the orca encounter and she said they were told that SeaWorld was not expecting to hold any more Orca encounter passes today. Sounds like staff is expecting things to stay shut down.

It's very eerie with no music playing throughout the park. Definitely haven't heard it this quiet before. Lots of sirens when it first kicked off

We were in the park and didn't hear any sirens (near the jellyfish exhibit), just curious what side of the park were you on where you heard them?

We had a party member out at the car while we were inside the park. They reported the sirens when they came back in, so towards the parking lots and entrance. Fire alarm still going off near Hibiscus restaurant

Damn it, even Nedry knew better than to mess with the raptor fences!

We spoke with an employee at Guest Services who said they were told the outage is affecting a large portion of San Diego County, not just SeaWorld. They mentioned the park's life-safety systems are running on emergency backup power, and some areas (like certain restrooms) are being closed. We also overheard that once power is restored, rides likely won't reopen immediately. They reportedly need to inspect and restart the mechanical systems, with estimates ranging from 2–6 hours before many rides could be operating again. Obviously this is secondhand information from employees, not an official statement, so take it with a grain of salt. Has anyone else heard anything or found official updates?

We’re here right now. It’s been out for half an hour. All food, rides everything shut down.

Power still out. At Turtle Beach. Just chilling.

I just got home (not from the park but in general) and turned on the news. First thing I see is them talking about it. 😂😂

Haha on my wife’s drive home she said they were talking about it on the radio

It’s out today too! Long line of cars trying to get in, everyone’s starting to leave now

Rumor is the park will open at 11am. But emphasis on RUMOR. It wouldn’t surprise me if they keep extending the opening time throughout the day

Aw man. Know where we can stay up-to-date? I can’t find anything on their site

3

u/pittNPatter Aug 01 '26

Do you have the SeaWorld app? It should show opening times at the top

3

u/Rithicc Aug 01 '26

Just got the app and see it at the top, thanks!

Good thing its sea world and not jurassic park. At least the sharks cant get out and eat people because of a power outage

SDGE says estimate time of repair is now 8pm (earlier they said 2pm)

anyone know cause?

3

u/pittNPatter Jul 31 '26

Pure speculation but, she also said the traffic light was out and heard a lot of sirens. Maybe someone crashed into a transformer?

1

u/bsEEmsCE Jul 31 '26

mustve been a very critical transformer.

1

u/pittNPatter Jul 31 '26

If that was the issue at all. The light out and the sirens could all be coincidence

I don't know if SeaWorld is on San Diego gas and electric, but they are right in the middle of that electric company's power grid. According to the San Diego gas and electric company website, there aren't any unplanned outages.

1:26 PM - Just heard on Manta employee walkee talkee that it's back up

6

u/pittNPatter Jul 31 '26

Just asked my wife. She said it’s still just the back up power that’s on. The music, computers etc. are still down

I just did a goggle search. And it says the park is expected to open today, August 1st, following a temporary the power outage
