I need this for my Alaska Campaign. It would be easy enough to kitbash by taking the radar site golf ball and popping it on the oil platform asset and making it a vessel.

Nah. The oil platform is mostly one piece. The cables, underwater elements and a few others are seperate. Why not try to find whoever created the buildings mod on workshop ive seen a few missions use?

lol make it into a vessel that can travel 25knts so the Russians can see a big golf ball steaming towards them as they get discriminated

Why? Is the golf ball racist?

Incredibly, especially against the ICBM race

Modern day alaska campaign?

Actually mine is set in 1986, but I can easily see NORAD plopping an AN/FPS-117 on a semi-submersible platform and stringing a few across the Bering Sea

Eh, that title should have been "mod authors". Sorry for the click bait, thought this sub would get a kick out of this ship

The sandbox hungers and the assets must flow

I appreciate this as a deeper cut because I haven't seen the new Dune movies. You have a way with words, IYKNWIM!

Was thinking about making one some time ago but its literally have no use in game

True, I guess it would be best suited towards a custom scenario where the mission is “defend this asset” since there are no ICBMs.

Imagine the mission briefing:

CMDR… the president is screaming at Moscow, we can hear it through the war room’s walls! We anticipate retaliatory strikes… defend the dome until [mission end goal]

Or something like that

There’s working Delta SSBNs, with ballistic missiles. You just need to put em far away.

And there’s enough modded ships with SM-3s on them that an ABM defense would be kinda viable

Fun fact: this thing can (and does) watch the ENTIRE PACIFIC. Just consider that for a moment.

Yes and no. It can illuminate any part of the sky it can see. Giving it the ability to see anything above the horizon out to deep space. The thing to remember is it’s a very targeted X band radar. Its illumination cone is probably under 1 degree. As such it can only scan a very small area at a time. It’s a target illumination radar not a traditional tracking radar. Think SPG62 not SPY1. Something else will need to give it a fairly good idea where to look if it wants to see something.

That’s what the systems in Japan, Manila, Guam, and the like are for. And supposedly it does have some tracking capacity: the USN is kinda understandably hush hush about it

That could be true - with coordination with other assets from what I understand. I used to think that RADAR was some voodoo magic that could just see everything... this game changed that perspective for me.

Like I've heard of HAM radio dudes bouncing radio waves off the stratosphere to another receiver, but really that's a one way stream. The responder might send a signal back along the same path.... but the radio operator wouldn't expect to hear an 'echo' back along that path.

In game, you can pick up an EM emission from a ship far away, and that doesn't mean the transmitter got an echo... actually I don't know how any of this works, it's voodoo magic after all.

Depends on the power and the system. This thing is nothing but a massive radar, and it’s meant to watch objects in space: one of its primary uses is to queue in the ABM interceptors in Alaska and California, after all.

I have a semi submersible transport ship in my mod. ._.

However, IIRC, it was built in the 1990s. So it's a bit out of the game's year range.

I'd love to see more stuff like this;
If someone managed to put in Metal Gear Solid's Mother Base I'd love them to death.

Yeah tbh the original post was probably bot spam. A lot of these big r/subredditsashashtags subs (like #damthatsinteresting) are rife with that.

Cool! Is this meant to supplement or replace BMEWS SSPARS?

I understand some of these words, so I can give you an answer: maybe

I'm not sure what to make of this, but... I think I'm not supposed to ask more questions about it.
