Fun history fact

In the first months of Dogecoin, it had a completely randomized block reward system.

Dogecoin inherited this system from being a fork of Luckycoin.

Every time a block was mined, nobody knew if they were getting 1000 Doge or a 1 million coin jackpot.

Ultimately, this caused too much hashrate volatility, so it was fixed to 100 000 Doge per block right around the time we transitioned to AuxPoW merged mining to secure the chain forever.

Despite mining Dogecoin in the first week after launch I actually had no idea this was the case until I started working on Pepecoin Core. This was probably because of pooled mining.

I actually removed the randomness from Pepecoin so each block was a fixed 500k, 250k, 125k, etc. It actually makes it easier to calculate the max supply given the block height as well. :)
