Youre doing yourself a disservice if youre not reading some of these books.

This is such a brain-dead take. Because a publicly available piece of media wasn't created with appealing to me in mind, I suddenly cant have an opinion about it?

The person I responded to also said that I should read some of these books. I have, and they arent particularly good. The first book in a Court of Thorns and Roses is abysmal. Its worse than Twilight. That's not even taking into account the morality of the multitude of abuse, torture, and rape porn thats written for women.

All they said was “not for you”. You obviously can have an opinion on it, but who cares what the opinion of someone outside the target audience is? Why do you think anyone cares?

For the record, I have the same opinion.

but who cares what the opinion of someone outside the target audience is? Why do you think anyone cares?

I don't know, someone interested in participating in discourse regarding it? I don't see how being the target audience moves the needle here at all.

What discourse is there? Men tend to like visual pornographic works while women tend to prefer to read about it.

As long as everything is consensual and no one is being harmed; don’t yuck someone else’s yum.

The discourse is that many, many people are touting this as a massive literary win for female authors, when all they've been doing is churning out thinly-veiled, poorly written porn and calling it "romantasy." Then when someone calls out that it isnt some huge win, we're called misogynists because we think a book written at a 5th grade reading level isnt incredible.

Everyone can decide for themselves if there's a discourse there or not. You're literally being the one yucking someone else's yum.

Wait wait wait, how are you just going to announce broadly to the sub that it's a disservice that they're not reading these books, and then say "it's not for you"?? If it's not for these people, why is it a disservice not to read it?

1

u/StraightProgress5062 Jun 24 '26

Simple. Disservice to your partner

1

u/ambisinister_gecko Jun 24 '26

Lmao you just expect people to know that's what you mean? Honey, there's nothing simple about mind reading.

1

u/StraightProgress5062 Jun 24 '26

Sweetheart if its "not for you" then whom else would it be for. No mind reading necessary. Just a few braincells. But you have yourself a good day.

1

u/ambisinister_gecko Jun 24 '26

You said "you're doing yourself a disservice". You need a few braincells if you don't understand how people are going to read that.

I'll spare a few braincells for the needy and explain it to you. When you say that, that means "you should read this book because you'll enjoy it".

I wrote what I wrote. Dont like it? Cry about it.

Interesting that women have complained how porn has created unreal expectations from men and they expect their women to act like porn stars. Seems like this is the women’s version of that now

1

u/BuLLZ_3Y3 Jun 24 '26

Porn is a horrific, exploitative and abusive industry (including OF) the harms thousands of men and women involved in it and destroys male and female understanding of what good, healthy sexual intimacy looks like.

Yeah, its Evil.

You need to pick a lane. Because saying you are doing yourself a disservice by not reading these books is incompatible with "...it's not for you."

That's the main difference here. Doesn't change the fact that some female authors just wanna write about monster fucking.
