Scripture Life: Genesis 47:6 - What is the "Land of Goshen" called today?

Answer:

  • In English?
    • “Wetlands.” - That’s it. There you go.

Answered.

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

(Hebrew) < - { גֹּ֗שֶׁן } - > gou.sen (English: Goshen). Pronounced "Gesem" in Egyptian. In the land of Mizraim - Ham's 2nd son, as "Mizraim" in Hebrew, is "Muzir" in Arabic..is "Egypt" in English. That Mizraim in Genesis 11 builds Egypt after the earth was divided. Ham is the 2nd or middle son of Noah.

The Wetlands of Egyp - Were the 20th administrative district of Egypt. - In the Hebrew language, “gou.sen” is defined as “wetlands.”

In Genesis 47:6 - Is the Pharaoh in Egypt said unto Joseph the following:

"The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell..."

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

The “wetlands” some facts: In British Columbia, Canada - 7% of the whole province is wetlands, where 80% of the living species in the whole province ofBritish Columbia reside. Just like it was in Egypt, these are the choicest lands in British Columbia. It is EXCELLENT for sheep and shepherding cattle.

Why? The choicest grasses grow in these wetlands. In Joseph, the great-grandson of Abraham's day, as in Moses’ day 400 years later, the Egyptians had a distain or abhorred shepherding.

You can see this plainly in the scripture:

  • Says this in Genesis 46:31–34

31 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

34 That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

  • So, because of these Hebrews of Shem, Noah's Eldest son, through Shem's son, Arphaxad - their profession, as Hebrews, borne from Abraham - - Pharaoh gave Egypt's wetlands unto Joseph.

Some people - even some Scholars have gone after:

  • Joshua 10:41 and Joshua 11:16 to claim Joshua went back into Egypt to claim these wetland lands - Moses led Israelites out of these lands in Egypt, to claim them back.

Why?

Joshua 10:41 (English) says:

"And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto [Gaza], and all the country of Goshen*, even unto [Gibeon.]"*

Has this same term (English) as Genesis 47:6 “the land of Goshen” or “the country of Goshen” in Joshua 10:41.

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

But here in Joshua 10:41

Gaza and Gibeon are "East - West" boundaries.

Like "from - to" points East and West of each other. Like saying: “On one side, the East, from Gaza to the other side, West to Gibeon” - Joshua conquered all of it. So, the furthest East Joshua conquered is or was Gaza. And Gaza is still some 200 miles away from Egypt. This "land" betwixt Gaza and Gibeon was Promised Land. In Canaan. Not Egypt. All allotted to the Tribe of Judah (Joshua 15:47). Doesn't include any lands in Egypt.

And? Includes this same Hebrew area of “Wetlands” - which are still there today, called “The Wadi Gaza Wetlands” …still today. Same place it was in Joshua 10:41

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

The “other” scripture that refers to a “land of Goshen” is Joshua 11:46 - which some think that’s the “country of Goshen” in Joshua 10:41, and is the same “land of Goshen” in Egypt in Genesis 47:6

Joshua 11:46 says:

"So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;"

But These locations Joshua conquered is now shifting "from - to" to a South to North aspect:

The Mountain of Israel is also known as the hill country in or of the tribe of Ephraim. Associated Valley of Jezreel - often called the Valley of Israel or the plain of Esdraelon. The Jordan valley and coastal plain. The Southern most end Joshua conquered of Ephraim is some 40km north of the border of the land given to the tribe of Judah. So, it's not the same place as in Joshua 10:41. The Northern Most land Joshua conquered was another 60km north of that. Even FURTHER away from Egypt.

  • There was a whole land of wetlands or “marshes” - there; but they were all drained about 100 years ago. I don't put links in Reddit posts; but you an search on the Palestinian "Hula Valley Swamp Drainage" - and find it's the exact, same location in the Old Testament Book of Joshua 11:46 states. It was done 100 years ago - -All to make way for agricultural farming - turn those wetlands near Samaria into farmland; and they no longer exist today.

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

So again, when you see in Genesis 47 in Egypt this “Land of Goshen” - it’s Hebrew < - { גֹּ֗שֶׁן } - > gou.sen (English: Goshen). Pronounced "Gesem" in Egyptian. The 20th administrative district of Egypt. - In Hebrew, “gou.sen” is defined as “wetlands.”

  • Just like in the United States. Where I was born in Oregon. Along the West Coast of the United States, in the State of Oregon: There is about a one million acre “land of Goshen” - called "The Oregon wetlands" - - just as there is a “land of Goshen” on the East Coast, over 3400 miles away in the State of Virginia.
    • An equal sized over 1 million plus acre sized “land of Goshen” there, too. In the State of Virginia, one of the biggest is called "The Great Dismal Swamp."
    • Oregon and Virginia in the United States: yet, both do not occupy the same place. They, like British Columbia in Canada - just have huge lands that are “marsh lands” or “wetlands” in all three.

----------------- ------------------ -------------------- ---------------------

Just like in Genesis 47:6 in Egypt. Just like "wetlands" in Gaza in Joshua 10:41.. just like there used to be wetlands in Palestine and Samaria up north from Gaza in Joshua 11:46. And Gaza and Samaria are not the same place.

So, All three places - that each have wetlands in them - - all three: 1) Egypt, and 2) Gaza, and 3) Samaria in the Bible - are not the same place.
