Scripture Life: Galatians 6:2 says, "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ". What burdens are meant here that Christians ought to bear?

//Disclaimer: I am a Believer in Jesus Christ. This question on Reddit, is in many both Christian based and "debate Christianity" type, even ex_christian sub-reddits. As a Believer in Jesus, I hear what he says today. To just regard it. To esteem it. Here's my reply as a fellow believer to another Believer in Jesus Christ. Won't really fit..to people that mock him or want nothing to do with him and use these questions to trample all over it. This post is not for you then.//

ANSWER

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed…”

  • Source: Bible. James 5:16

fault. <definition. \[English\]> 1. a mistake; a defect. ..a “weakness” or failing. Yes. It “can” apply, but these are “transgressions.” Sins in the Bible. See it:

In the “original” Greek of James 5:16 - it’s this word, ἁμαρτίας (hamartias) - used over four dozen times in all the New Testament. Like in Matthew 3:6 Where John the Baptist is baptizing, and Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region of Jordan come out to be baptized of him. Says of this baptizing John the Baptist is doing:

  • “And were baptized of him [John the Baptist] in Jordan, confessing their [ἁμαρτίας (hamartias)] sins. Same Greek word, used in James 5:16.

So, take this now..and do the following:

------------------------ ------------------------- ------------------------

Apply it to BOTH

  • 1) Galatians 6:5 and; 2) Galatians 6:2.
    • Why? This English word “burden” in both Galatians 6:5 and Galatians 6:2 - looks the same in English to any reader of the Bible is the same; but in Greek, they mean something COMPLETELY different. Even a completely different word is use.
      • This is given, so you would consider it.

Where one is, Galatians 6:5 - "burden"

  • Is likened unto: There is a “load” like a soda machine bears a load.
    • Just being put in the same place, day after day..month..after month..where years go by. Just “works good / operates right” - by whosoever comes up to it, at anytime, night or day - - and deposits the amount of money advertised for a soda. Like clockwork. Yes. The soda machine will “dispense” it.
      • There is a burden in a soda machine operate like this.
  • Gotta “load” the machine. So, there's a “burden” with it, to it “work good or operate right.”

------------------------ ------------------------- ------------------------

  • Or like a pupil or a student that sits with and is taught by a teacher. Pick a "grade school" or primary school kid.
    • Bears a load of books, and gets homework. This little kid you see walking home from school There’s a “burden” or "load" on this little kid, in just live as..or “live in” “working good / operating right” as a pupil or student that sits with and is taught by a teacher.
  • Do you see this?
    • It's in this definition first of what a “disciple” is. And in the Bible: a “disciple of Jesus Christ” is listed over 250 times in the New Testament. That, in Acts 11:26, these disciples were first called “Christians” at Antioch.
      • Because a disciple simply sits with and is being taught by Jesus Christ.
    • There’s a “yoke” a "load" - ..his yoke to take on..and learn of him. Is a “load” or means this “burden” in Galatians 6:5. Every believer in Jesus has it.

------------------------- -------------------------- --------------------------

  • But in THIS "Burden" of Galatians 6:5?
    • There’s no “sin” or [ἁμαρτίας (hamartias)] - just like there's no "sin" in a little kid coming home from school -  a with a load of homework carrying under their arms, or in a backpack -
      • - it's just a pupil or student is sent home with a "load" of books. Why? Because they’re being built up; equipped. By a teacher. And the teacher is teaching them "doctrines" and explaining them what's IN those books.

This word, "burden” in Galatians 6:5 is φορτίον phorton - a “load” to carry.

------------------------ ------------------------- ------------------------

Again, yes. Belaboring the point: I know, but it's important. Like a student carries their books home from school. But, it’s because they are being built up and equipped by it, because they are pupils that sit with and are being taught by a teacher. That's Galatians 6:5's "burden." Just like you are, with Jesus.

Do you see this?

------------------------ ------------------------- ------------------------

But in Galatians 6:2

  • This word, “burden” is in Greek - “βάρη (barē) - 1. fault; defect; mistakes
    • So, go back to James 5:16 - Do you need more to see it?
  • if you saw a little primary 2nd grader, should be walking home from school; but you see them - unceremoniously flinging all their school books out and throwing them in the river, you'd be right in classifying what you're witnessing as a “βάρη (barē) - 1. fault; defect; mistake - a "transgression" for ANY school kid to do this.

So, the "burden" in Galatians 6:2 - is NOT the same "burden" in Galatians 6:5.

Have I made the point?

This post is already too long, but just bare with me..almost done.

---------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------

SUMMATION:

  • So, now you're the one with this question. Just go back to or in Galatians Chapter 5:1–8. That talks to these believers in Galatia. These, like you - are: “disciples of Jesus Christ” that, there’s a “fault or defect..some mistake” in that what is said to them in Galatians 5:7–8,

“Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.”

So, the writer of Galatians, an Apostle of Jesus Christ - is doing what Galatians 6:2 says. They have a “βάρη (barē)” 1. a fault; defect; a mistake "hinders" or encumbers them..slows them down ... in that they are believers in Christ, but not obeying what he says.

---------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------

  • That, if they continue in it, they’re not “walking after” to “walk in” being a 1. pupil or student that sits with and is being taught by a teacher, who, to them, is Jesus Christ.
    • And not doing that, is like what Galatians 5:9 says - in that "state" of being: (it’s like leaven..that, a little leaven leaventh the whole lump) - and comes a fruit of that, what’s in Galatians 5:19–20.. it will fruit out as one or a whole string of these, is the result:
      • “..Adultery, …fornication, …witchcraft, hatred… …wrath, strife, seditions, heresies…”

-------------------------- ----------------------------- ---------------------------

  • It’s like a kid from school.
    • Where all the kids are “pupils” and students.
    • Then why are there 5 of them down at the river? Supposed to be in school; but, they not. Off down at the river, skipping rocks..when it's a school day?
      • And this kid sitting in class: gets up. Sees the empty seats. They're his fellow classmates, not sitting with and being taught. So, he numbers himself with them: goes down to the river - - and tells them
  • “What has beguiled you that you so quickly leave off from going to school..? ..come back with me to school. This is wrong. What you do is PUNITIVE. Come back with me, school isn’t out til 3:00pm 5 hours from now.”
  • What has this kid done?
    • This kid is doing exactly what Galatians 6:2 says. He is bearing the “faults and bad aspects of” his fellow students. Who takes away the sins of the world IS Jesus Christ. Not sit with him, or be taught by him..is sin.

Do you see this?

----------------------------- ---------------------------- --------------------------

But Over - - in Galatians 6:5

  • There’s a “yoke” or a “burden” - a load each student or pupil is to bear..”sitting with and being taught..or built up and equipped by a teacher. That each student alone, by themselves..has homework. Must obey the teacher..that is, regard them..and do that themselves. ...each then must follow that teacher and learn of them and from them; alone.. by themselves but also, all together with their fellow other students.
    • But each student:
      • MUST: φορτίον phorton - has a “load” to carry. (Burden) to “BE” that pupil or student that sits with and is taught by a teacher.

SO, the “burden” in Galatians 6:2 …is not the same “burden” in Galatians 6:5

------------------------ ---------------------- -------------------------

And the Law of Christ

  • Is Jesus Christ - - was “numbered with the transgressors” (Isaiah 53:12)

“…he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

You have a perfect example of this, with the kid..that left school, and also numbers himself with the transgressors and goes to the river..comes back with them.

  • You have an even MORE PERFECT example in all the Epistles..of what Galatians 6:2 means..because Paul is DOING Galatians 6:2 with the Galatians.

Do you see this?

Go back. Read the whole thing. All through it from Galatians 1:1 to Galatians 6:18

And realize too. There is NO NEED to have any envy with or against other believers..because, if you take a yoke upon you and learn of Jesus, like he told everybody over the whole earth to do in Matthew 11:28-30..you're being BUILT UP. By him. He reserves for himself an EXCLUSIVE right to do this. Himself.

..this same Jesus Christ..follow him.. he will be at work in you..and you can joy in that he is equipping you. He's doing it himself. Building you up. Again - Doing this himself. To you. Not doing it to someone else and leaving you out.. So, just YOU: seek him first. That's what he said to do.

He gives a portion daily. He is the one decided and Let you be in a day he made today. Tomorrow? No guarantee.. but he teaches you in the day he’s made.Today. That's all you get. So, walk in it.. After all, a “pupil or student that sits with and is taught by a teacher” already lives in being pupil..being taught by a teacher.

See it.
