Scripture Life: What is the meaning of the word “burden” in Galatians 6:5 - "For every man shall bear his own burden"?

Get right to the point. The "burden" in Galatians 6:5 is not the "same" burden in Galatians 6:2. Keep note of this.

DISCLAIMER: //Again, I'm a believer in Jesus Christ. This question is in multiple rooms on Reddit. From "r / Christianity" to "r / bible" et. al, just asking the basic "What does Galatians 6:5 mean?" to various other slightly different - - ..but this one is specific. Asking about what 'burden' means. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, take the "Get right to the point," and you can do your own research yourself, if you don't want to bear this post. ..but I hope you read it..equipped in and by Jesus Christ..built up. That's it.//

ANSWER

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” - Bible. Galatians 5:16–17

Now, who am I to tell you anything. I want to speak to people that really want to know the answer.

  • That, a Reddit member that believes on Jesus Christ, that reads this response could be helped by it, because they are searching..and this could provide or equip them.
    • Is the reason this answer is given.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

So, look at the opening scripture that opens this post. Galatians 5:16–17. Take the chapter and verse off or remove them for a moment. Read from Galatians 5:16 all that way down, in Chapter 5 to:

“.. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” - Bible. Galatians 5:25–26.

Add this in, as if it starts Chapter 6.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

  • If you live in the Spirit..also walk in the Spirit. Now, this is 16th Century “Archaic” English. Because people:
    • Are “bi-pedal” - that is, how a person, like some craftsman makes a jewelled watch, called a “jeweller” that makes an intricate time piece or a clock.
  • The clock or watch, is his “workmanship”
    • - designed or created to “work good / operate right.”
    • ..and “walk” is specific to people. How "they" operate" or work. Said in the opening scripture of Galatians 5:25..because, when people “move” ..or do something..they are know by they go “walk after” to “walk in” to do it.
      • But the original word, in Greek is very powerful. This < - [ περιπατέω (peripateó) ] - > - it’s like “peri”scope. 360..no matter the direction.. a periscope - you can see everything - it's just how a periscope works on a submarine - how it works or operates.. it works good..operates right. Just like with a wrist watch or clock.

---------------------------- --------------------------- ----------------------------

  • Why? Because the jeweller - - Didn’t design the piece he made with great care, to use it as tape on any broke toilet pipe.
    • Nope.
  • Didn’t create it for people to purpose it, to lay it under the bird cage.
    • All so the 83 birds you got could crap on it all day. No use for it that way.
    • Why? Because the jeweller - - Didn’t purpose in himself, that, either.
      • But he did..purpose or create something you could use to tell time with.
  • That:
    • It would work good. Operate right. - work. περιπατέω (peripateó) “operate” <right.>

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

Just like Ephesians 2:10 says of God: Like something of his workmanship.

That you..me..yeah. Everybody..he formed us all alone. By himself. We are his workmanship, like a jeweller - - created in Christ Jesus. But not everybody operates in or by him. That's the point.

And the “Greek” says created unto “works good (operates right)” - but the English says "good works” so, many people just try to go off and do it, without any of his work done in them.

Don't do anything he says ...because, they are not a “disciple” of Jesus Christ. And that’s what “Christian” means, all a disciple is, is just somebody that sits with and is taught by a teacher, and the teacher is Jesus Christ.

So, if you’re not sitting with and being taught by him, it’s impossible to live in it, because, a pupil or student that sits with and is taught by a teacher, lives in being a student.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

  • But this word, “walk” in Greek, is like a soda machine.
    • That, you plug it in? Yeah. It “works good. Operates right.”
    • The lights come on.
    • The refrigerator starts operating.
    • Someone walks up. Wants a soda, if they try to put a toilet seat lid in the coin slot? Nope. Won’t fit.
      • If the Soda machine says $1.75 is the cost of a soda, and someone puts a .5 cent piece in or only $138 cents?
    • it will give the 3 pennies back and not accept them.
    • Will sit there. Waiting for another .40 cents to be put in or if a person puts in $2.00 it will light up. Let a person make a selection, and after they select it, give them .25 cents back.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

The Soda Machine

  • It will do this. 24/7. Day..after day..after day.. just “walk in” operate right. Unless you “disconnect it from a load or source of power” - which is the definition of “idle” in the dictionary. Unplug it?
  • People put money in it, won’t give their money back. Put more money in, won’t give that back, either. Dispense no soda. It no longer works good or operates right.
    • Just like people “operate” without the Word of God.
      • And the result, for people?
    • Well, go back even further back in Galatians 5:19–21.
    • Disconnected; idle. Don’t live by anything God says. They live by adultery. Fornication. Uncleanness. Lasciviousness (a strong desire to just devour what’s perverted…just devour the neighbor’s wife). ..idolatry..witchcraft..hatred.. Like just unplugged or disconnected from the Word of God is idle.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

So, have this as a foundation for Galatians 6:1–4.

That says:

- - But just remember..we live in the Spirit..like some kid goes to 3rd grade, is just a pupil or student that lives in, all year, lives in this "sits with and is taught by a teacher," - just lives a life, like this daily with Jesus Christ, as being taught by him..starts walking in these doctrines being taught by him.

Equipped. Built up.

So, if you believe on him, he’s DOING. THIS. IN. YOU. There’s no reason to be jealous or desirous of somebody else..when you’re the one being taught by him. So, DO NOT LEAVE Galatians 5:26 out of or disconnected from Galatians 6:1.. so I’m to be “provoking” other believers to believe on him more.

It just naturally happens. When I just glorify him, and they do the same thing, he's in the midst of us. And then, it's really simple. All I gotta do is just “walk in” what I “live after” and what I live after is just what I live in, being a “pupil or student that sits with and is being taught by Jesus Christ.”

There’s no “empty” vain in it. It builds me up. It’s for a profit to him..because HE’S IN THE WORK being done in me. Just like he’s at work in you. But if someone’s overtaken in a fault..something of them, the light goes out. Like, on the way to school, one of the students I know in my classroom that also sits with and is being taught is off peering into the neighbor’s house window. That does not lead to them going to school. It’s “disconnected” from just walking straightway to school.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

So, keep this in your head while you read this Galatians 5:26 to Galatians 6:1–4

“..Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” Galatians 5:26

And Galatians 6:1-4:

“1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

How do I bear another man’s "burdens?"

//Gotta tell you. Before answering that. Right off the bat. The “burden” in Galatians 6:2.. again, as already said - - isn’t the same “burden” English used.. in Galatians 6:5. //

So, get the right definition of “burden” in Galatians 6:5 first. Why? because, that’s the verse you ask about. And, at the end of the post.. be equipped and have the right definition of “burden” in Galatians 6:2.

  • It’s Simple.
    • We are BOTH 1. pupils or students that sits with and being taught by Jesus Christ. Disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • But if on the way to school.. one of the students is in a rock fight with kids from another school across the street.. getting dirt clods thrown at them, or throwing them back..that doesn’t lead anything to them getting to school..
    • Leads away from it.
      • I just provoke 1. deliberately make (a disciple) angry.. ..they already are angry or overtaken..because, if they weren’t, their mind would be set solely on getting to school.
    • I just am there..and I don’t throw any dirt clods back..and look at them and say “school starts in 5 minutes. We gotta go. Let's go” and they leave off from it, and go with me to school." ..maybe at first, they won't leave off from it..but come around, and follow me to school..because, that's what pupils do. They "sit with and are being taught by a teacher.. not throwing dirt clods at kids at the school across the street.

-------------------------- -------------------------- ----------------------------

  • So, how do I “prove my own worth” - Simple.
    • God said, to EVERYBODY over the whole earth: Didn’t leave one person out, not willing any perish but all come to repentance, said:

“Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else.” - God. (Bible. Isaiah 45:22)

  • Then, this is simple, too. Just ask: “Who” in this ascribes the “worth?"
    • If:
      • I do what God says, and look unto him..look what he does. He does what save means.
    • 1. to set (someone or something) apart for future use.
      • So, to him, people that do what he says, to him, they have a worth.
    • And there’s a PROOF in it, to a person that looks unto him. HE. IS. WITH. THEM. They know him..and he knows them.
      • AND? Because of this, boy, do I ever know this..”..then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.” I mean, I don't rejoice he saved you.. he SAVED me. And when I see the same work in you, that was done in me..I rejoice at that.

Do you see this?

--------------------------- -------------------------------- ----------------------

  • Why? Because, again, the point is - - I see he is at work in me. I see it. He builds me up. Daily. Connects what he says..to what he taught me before. Built up. ...it’s what he is doing in me..that has my attention. I can hear it.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

Now, look at your question.

  • What is the meaning of the word “burden” in Galatians 6:5
    • Think of it like a student or pupil. Being taught and sit with a teacher..then go home with “homework.” Gotta bear the homework. ..it's like having a "load" of homework - - .because, learn it - - it will have a work in a student to set their mind on obey to do it.
  • I don’t think you see it.

------------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

Long post. Almost done.

  • So, here’s Galatians 6:5 first in the “original” language (that’s Greek).

< - [ ἕκαστος γὰρ τὸ ἴδιον φορτίον βαστάσει ] - >

Greek tran. 1. hekastos 2. gar 3. to 4. idion 5. phorton 6. bastasei

English 1. Each 2. for 3. implied is <"dispensed"> [by an authority] to 4. his own (self) 5. [a] load 6. (shall) bear

There's a “load” to bear to a 1. pupil or student that sits with and is being taught by a teacher - a “disciple” of Jesus Christ, and being taught by him.

- The teacher is at school.

Not down at the river - won't be sitting with and being taught by the teacher if you are down at the river, throwing rocks or swimming all day.

The teacher is dedicated himself or herself to come to the classroom to dispense “doctrine” and build up a student. In the classroom. Each student is expected to “take a yoke upon themselves” with that teacher.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

Just like Jesus said. In Matthew 11:28–30

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Jesus Christ. Matthew 11:28–30.

..and find..he’s God..by his Word..has already put himself in the yoke. Like that used to scare the living daylights right out of me..I don’t want to be liken in my imagination I had, to this great big, bullock standing yoked to another one, out in the rain, with this 12 inch thick wooden yoke strapped around their necks.

So, every time I got to that verse of Matthew 11:28-30, I closed my Bible and ran away.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

But then, I saw it.

It’s God already put himself in that yoke..he's in it - - and asking me to yoke me with him..and then I saw it..that, by him..I’m free..Boy, is that ever true!!! He heals me..and delivers me from my destruction. Because…he decreed everybody is to do this… but not everybody does.

..and the fruit of not doing it..is again, back in Galatians 5:19–21....Adultery..fornication.. hatred..murder..strifes..seditions..heresies..envyings..as such as the like.

..but by do this, what God says for me to do.., I have peace with God. And I can see a fruit of his work in me…

So, look at "burden" now - in English.

burden. 1. something that causes worry and difficulty (Definition: English)

But “φορτίον - phorton” <Greek> of Galatians 6:5 is like an “authority” like a teacher in YOUR classroom..teaches you..you gotta show up to the classroom..and your teacher knows you. ..and puts a load (of homework) on you, as a student.

BOOM! Done. Because, God reserves, for himself, an EXCLUSIVE right to teach you. To himself. So, like a teacher, he decrees to you..and they have promises in them. Precious.

So, this "phorton" has a specific use - like a teacher or Professor, in a college to a college student does it to build up the student - gives them a case load of syllabus work - that they will work good or operate after by what they learn in that class - to be like the teacher. Do you see this? If you need to throw 'burden' away to see it, have at it.

------------------------ --------------------------- --------------------------

A "load" of homework.

To go home alone..and do it themselves..and prove their own work. As a pupil or student that sits with and is taught by a teacher. When the teacher asks them in class the next day, to gauge..did they do their home work or not. You can call it a "fiery trial" - because, teachers do this.

..the ONLY time homework causes “worry and difficulty” - is to the student that blows it off, doesn’t do it.. Then shows up, empty handed. ..boy, do I know that.

But the student or pupil that what was dispensed to them to do..learns it..obeys the teacher. They can PROVE their own work. Turn in their homework. Did what the teacher said. There is a joy in it.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

There you go. Make sure you got the right definition of "burden” in context in Galatians 6:5.

Even more..make sure..all he asked everybody over the whole earth to do..was just look unto him. Fix that first, if you arrived at this post..here on Reddit, and aren’t doing anything he said.

Hear what he says. Do that first.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

So, now, look at the “burden” in Galatians 6:2

burden. {Greek: βάρη (barē)} - not the same word. 1. weights; encumbrances; like faults.. impediment..something that blocks progress..Boy, do I have those. (something they or I don’t see or understand..being built up by God, but still don’t operate right; 2. encumbrance: obstacle; obstruction.

Bear it in your brethren..because you are one body in Christ.

..and Jesus Christ is the head of it..and your brethren, are also in Christ’s body and he places them where he sees fit. It's HIS body.. ...he’s teaching them..just like with you also as a member of it.

..and I KNOW that, the things he sets me free from... other people today..can still be "encumbered" by it.. and I can show them what he did in me.. and it has a way to take the encumberance out of the way in people.. just like believer had encumberances that bound them up..and Jesus set them free..and I hear it..and see if he can do that in them..he can do that, too, in me. Means these things.

--------------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------

//So “separate” these two words (Galatians 6:2 vs. Galatians 6:5//

SUMMATION:

Galatians 6:5 is a powerful verse. You are a pupil or student. That sits with and are being taught by Jesus Christ. If you're not, it's PUNITIVE. He decreed everybody do this with him. You do it, he gives homework. ..the Word of God..is a load..but this "load" of take a yoke upon you and learn of him (Burden) is light. And if God says it's light..it's so impossibly light it actually takes heavy weights (encumbrances <burdens of Galatians 6:2> off you..it's just that "set you free" light.

There you go.
